NCAA Week 7/NFL Week 6 Recap: How about those Lions!

Like the title says... How about those Lions? I don't know about you, but there is a lot to be excited about if you live in the state of Michigan right now. It's almost like we have been waiting all our lives for this. I think a good portion of us are just waiting for the collapse to happen, though I hope that isn't the case.

We have been conditioned to accept mediocrity and disappointment. It's a rough road for sure.

I'll get to that more in a bit though.

Alright, so let's get the crappy stuff out of the way before we move along to the exciting stuff. It's hard to put into words the level of disgust I had on Saturday night after watching the Michigan State Football game. They were doing so well through most of the game then it is like they totally imploded in the fourth quarter.

Sure, the weather had a bit to do with it, but for the most part, the blame lays squarely on them. It's not surprising that they have had at least four players de commit from the team in the past week or two. With everything that is going on with former coach Mel Tucker, it's hard to know what is going to be left of this team when we are done. I expect many players will be entering the transfer portal after this train wreck of a season.

The 27 to 24 loss to Rutgers never should have happened. It doesn't give one much hope for their contest this weekend against Michigan. Did we really have any in the first place? The good news is, they are making some good connections on the basketball side of things and that season is only a month away.

Stanford took Colorado into two overtimes and beat them 46 to 43. That's after defying all odds and mounting an epic comeback from what I heard. Florida State rolled over Syracuse 41 to 3. Likewise, Michigan destroyed Indiana 52 to 7. Speaking of lopsided scores, Ohio State beat Purdue 41 to 7.

#11 Alabama had a close one against Arkansas barely winning 24 to 21. Illinois had a great game against Maryland beating them 27 to 24 on the road. If MSU can beat Illinois then we might not look so bad.

Penn State thumped on UMass 63 to 0. I have to admit, the best game of the coming weekend might be the Penn State, Ohio State game, not the Michigan State, Michigan game.

Washington had a close game against Oregon 36 to 33. I heard that one was pretty exciting, but I didn't get the chance to watch it.

In upsets, Pitt beat #21 Louisville 38 to 21. That loss cost me in my weekly bets, so I am not too happy about it.

I should also point out, #15 Notre Dame had a big game against #18 USC beating them 48 to 20.

Turning to the NFL, as I said, things were pretty close at the beginning of the Lions game. I thought they were going to just coast through the week and either lose or barely win. The defense really stepped up and took them to town.

It was magnificent to watch them pretty much dismantle the Bucs. It's been a breath of fresh air watching the Lions this season. I hope it continues. The big news of the weekend though was the fact that the two undefeated teams finally lost. San Francisco lost to Cleveland in game that came right down to the wire.

Likewise, The Eagles lost to the Jets to mar their perfect record.

I'm happy to see that Seattle lost to Cincinnati. They are a team that I really just can't stand. It's hard to imagine that Washington beat Atlanta, but that was the case. Of course it was the week that I dropped the Washington defense and picked up the Atlanta defense in my fantasy league.

Sorry back to the Lions for the sec. One of the things I really noticed was that it almost seemed like a home game for them. Lions fans have been traveling really well this year. Either that or we have a lot of bandwagon jumpers. Either way, it was exciting.

The other big news of the weekend was the absolutely horrible officiating that took place during the Browns/49ers game. The guy must have thought he was at a Lions game, that's how bad it was. I think we can all agree that sports betting has undeniably changed the game of professional football. There is no chance anyone is so incompetent they would get that many calls wrong unless they were on the take.

The problem is, you aren't supposed to make it that obvious buddy. I doubt the league will do anything about it, they make too much money. But they should!

I do too. The Lions have been one of those teams that I have actually felt bad for over the years and I would love to see them achieve some glory this year.

It kind of feels like everyone is pulling for them this year. Except maybe the Packers fans...
