NFL Week 14 Recap: I see you Lions

Football.png

It was a pretty awesome weekend as far as football goes. There weren't any college games yet, but the NFL games that were on turned out to be pretty good. I will get to that in a second though.

Bowl season is upon us and if you haven't been paying attention, the first of the college games start in just three days on the 16th. From here until the first of the year it will be an onslaught of big name teams and others you have never heard of going head to head in this bowl or that bowl.

I think it is pretty interesting that we are starting to see more and more towns sponsoring bowls versus companies. Sure, you still have stuff like the "Lending Tree Bowl", and "Quick Lane Bowl", but you also have stuff out there like "Boca Raton Bowl", "New Orleans Bowl", and "Myrtle Beach Bowl".

If you were going to turn on over between the 16th and the 17th, I'd keep an eye on the SMU/BYU game in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday at 7:30 PM EST, or the Fenway Bowl pitting Cincinnati against Louisville also Saturday at 11:00 AM EST.

The Las Vegas Bowl could be good too with Florida taking on #14 Oregon State at 2:30 PM EST on Saturday. Check back next week for my recap of all the results.

As far as the NFL is concerned, I told you it was an awesome weekend. Probably the biggest news of the weekend was my 5-7 Lions taking down the 10-2 Vikings in Detroit. It was an awesome game. The defense was on fire and the offense was hitting on all cylinders. I have never been much of a Goff fan, but this year has shown he can be pretty darn good when he has a decent team supporting him.

It's too bad all of these pieces couldn't come together when Stafford was here.

We still have a long way to go, but suddenly getting one of those wild card spots doesn't seem quite as unlikely. Especially given the fact that Seattle lost the other day. That was the boost we needed.

There are still three or four games to play, and it isn't going to look good for us if we can't win those.

With a record of 12-1 on the season, the Philadelphia Eagles have clinched their spot in the playoffs. They are the only team to have done that so far. They easily beat the Giants 48 to 22 on Sunday.

The Rams just edged out the Raiders 17 to 16.

Buffalo continues to roll along taking care of the Jets 20 to 12. Their fate should be determined in the next couple of weeks along with Kansas City and possibly Minnesota despite their recent loss.

Tampa Bay was smacked down by the 49ers in San Francisco this past weekend and I will have more to say about that tomorrow when I cover my fantasy football results.

Besides the Lions winning, the three most surprising things about last weekend would probably be the narrow margin by which the Cowboys beat the Texans, the fact that Carolina beat Seattle, and how badly Jacksonville beat Tennessee.

Dallas is still probably going to make it to the playoffs barring any more loses, but when you struggle to beat the worst team in the league, it isn't a good look.

I need to make a point of watching an Eagles game. I haven't seen them play at all yet this year and I don't want my first game to be the playoff's. That would be kind of embarrassing. I've still got my hopes and my money on the Lions. I don't know as though they will win it all, but I think they are going to spoil a few teams hopes between now and the Super Bowl.

That narrow victory by the Rams sure doesn't help Detroit's chances of getting a really good draft pick next year. With Stafford on the bench, I'd be fine with Los Angeles losing the rest of their games for the season.

I've always wanted the 2 worst teams to play each other at the end. Hopefully like 2 winless teams. Sponsored by Tidy Bowl it's The Toliet Bowl..

Ha ha, that would be pretty funny. Nebraska might be in the running for that this year... They did have that one win over Iowa though.
