Nine to go!

Things are continuing to roll along in Williamsport Pennsylvania. I was today years old when I learned that the tournament has been taking place in Williamsport since something like 1959. That's a pretty impressive history and I bet it brings a lot of business (and headaches) to the town in August of every year.

For a town that only boasts about 6,000 residents as of 2024, it's pretty easy to imagine that the population can nearly 10x when the tournament happens. In fact, a quick search on Google shows that the tournament brings in close to 500,000 visitors each year. That's pretty nuts.

In fact, you might think that an event like this or a town like this is likely in a some suburb of Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but the fact is, South Williamsport sits right in the middle of Pennsylvania along the west branch of the Susquehanna River.

Pretty crazy right?!

As the title suggests, there are only nine games left in the tournament. Ten if you consider the consolation third place game.

Yesterday we had an exciting handful of games in the loser portion of the bracket. Midwest took down the Northwest 9 to 0 to make their way closer to redemption on the US side of the bracket. Likewise, The Southeast took down the West 3 to 0.

On the International side of the bracket Japan shut out Mexico 6 to 0 and The Caribbean beat the Canadian team 6 to 1.

That sets things up for today where the Midwest faces the Southeast. The winner of that game will play the loser of the Mountain versus Metro game that is also happening today.

Again, over on the International side of things, Japan is facing the Caribbean today and the winner of that game will face the loser of the Latin America vs. Asia-Pacific game that happens today. The winner of that game will advance to the final game on their side of the bracket against the winner of the loser portion of the bracket.

Which means we could be treated to a Mountain/Metro and Latin America/Asia-Pacific rematch on the 23rd of August when those games are played. It's actually a little interesting they give them a break on Friday before the big semifinal games.

Check back tomorrow to see how things are going to pan out for the rest of the bracket!
