That's a Win!

I got a message from my nephew the other night that he won both of his wrestling matches in their most recent contest. Not only that, but he won them both by pins! How amazing is that. It's hard to believe that this is his first time wrestling ever, so I am pretty impressed and proud of how well he is doing. If he continues to have success like this, I think it is going to hard for him to make a decision between basketball and wrestling when he gets to the high school level. Personally, I kind of hope he sticks with wrestling, but that's just me. It would give us a bit of variety since his younger brother also plays basketball.

You might think I have forgotten, but the NCAA Volleyball tournament is still going on right now. Things picked back up on Thursday of last week with the third round.

Creighton took down Arizona State 3 games to 1, Kentucky blanked Cal Poly in straight sets, Pittsburgh did the same to Minnesota, and Purdue stopped the SMU run 3 to 1.

On Friday the action continued with Texas taking down Indiana in straight sets, Wisconsin beat Stanford 3 to 1, Texas A&M stunned Louisville 3 to 2, and Nebraska beat Kansas in straight sets.

That set things up for the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Kentucky had little trouble taking down Creighton in straight sets. Likewise, Pitt had a pretty easy road to the semifinal taking down Purdue 3 sets to 1.

Sunday is where the real heartbreak happened as we saw both 1 seed teams get knocked out of the tournament. Texas A&M had a thriller against the number 1 team in the nation Nebraska. Until this match Nebraska had failed to lose a single match all season. Their record was something like 33-0. That's just dang impressive.

While I typically don't have a problem with a good underdog win, in this case I wasn't jumping for joy. It's not that I don't like Texas A&M, but I was really impressed with Nebraska and the season they had. Plus, I didn't really expect Wisconsin to have much of a chance against Texas, so I was thinking this was going to be the last Big Ten team that had a shot of winning it all.

Then Wisconsin went and showed up beating Texas 3 to 1 later Sunday night. I was honestly shocked when I saw the news the next day.

Way to go Badgers!

That leads us to today, where Texas A&M is facing Pittsburgh at 6:30 tonight and then Wisconsin is taking on Kentucky at 9:00 PM, also on ESPN.

Finally, we have the championship game Sunday December 21st at 3:30 PM in Kansas City Missouri.

It should be interesting to see how this all plays out. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a Wisconsin vs. Texas A&M showdown, but those number 1 teams are going to be tough to beat!
