The Boys of Summer

With the excitement that was the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament behind us, it is important to remember that April 1st brought about the start of a new season.

Opening day of Major League Baseball was on April 1st and for a lot of people that is what they use to measure the fact that winter is behind us and we can finally start thinking about warmer temperatures. At least the people north of Kentucky...

Having lived in Michigan my whole life Detroit is my team. We went through some really rough years after they won the world series in 84.

We finally turned things around and got to the world series again in 2012 I think it was, but sadly we fell short. A lot of times, the Tigers have a similar problem to the Lions. They have a ton of great talent on the team and yet, they just can't seem to convert. It is literally enough to drive you to drinking sometimes.

I mean they had Verlander, Scherzer, and a couple other aces on their roster all at the same time and they couldn't pull it off. To be fair, a lot of that was on their bullpen, but still...

So as a Tiger's fan, what we have seen the last couple of years is very familiar. It seems like all too often we are in a rebuilding phase that never really amounts to anything. It is still a blast to watch them play most of the time.

These days, I honestly don't know most of the players. Many of the pitchers are familiar names, but most of the infield and outfield are new blood for me.

So far the Tigers are 3-3 on the season which isn't too bad they are in second or third place in the AL Central. That isn't too bad either. We will see if it holds out or if things start to go sideways on them.

One of the stand out names that has been coming across my Facebook feed from other Detroit Tigers fans lately is Akil Baddoo, it appears he is quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to his batting skills.

In my past experience as a Tigers fan, that usually means he will be promptly traded away. They seem to do that with all of the good ones. Granderson being the prime example.

Somehow Carbera is still kicking around. I was actually complaining about him the other day and in the same at bat he hit a home run. So what do I know. Sadly, he will probably hit into more double plays than he will hit home runs this year. That seems to be pretty typical for him these days.

I want to get excited about the Tigers this year. After the long Covid stretch and the shortened season last year, it is refreshing to know that a full season of baseball is hopefully ahead of us.

I have to go in with some measured optimism though because this is the Tigers after all. They've let me down far too many times to get my hopes up too high!

Wow.... Good to know that basketball has kick started in your country. Though I'm not really familiar with basketball, but I always love watching the players play. Enjoy the game to the fullest. I believe summer is at ur door step, it's always an amazing season. Much love from this other end friend.

You mean you aren't going to boycott the games because of the whatever that was in Georgia? Just kidding of course. I've never been much of a fan of baseball unless I am actually at the games, which of course, we can't do where I live right now. Maybe I'll fly down to Texas or Florida :)

We have a AAA team in the town where I grew up. Just down the road. They built a really nice stadium and those games are fun to go to. I like going to Tigers games too, but the drive and parking are always a pain.

As a non American, I don't follow baseball, but it's interesting to hear about it. Nothing like the excitement of a new season bouyed by fans enthusiasm for a fresh start.
