The final stretch!

It's getting to be that time of year that the Fall sports are almost all in the books. Volleyball season is winding down for my local niece, and Fall softball season is nearly over for my nieces down in Ohio. My nephews still have a couple of football games before the playoffs start and here where I work students are already starting to shift into winter sports mode.

This weekend @mrsbozz and I are planning to go and watch our friends son play football. That's the last obligation we have before fall sports are finished. I say obligation, but that makes it sound like we are being forced to go.

The fact is, we try to make it to at least one of our nieces and nephews events each season. Whether they are blood relatives or de facto relatives because we are such close friends with their parents. We tried to get to one of the football games earlier this season, but some unforeseen circumstances made us change our plans.

It's supposed to be pretty rainy this weekend, so if it is too bad, we might have to nix our plans. If that is the case, we will be sure to go and watch him play basketball this winter. Sometimes things are just out of our control...

Meanwhile, for the rest of the weekend, Michigan State has a big game against Rutgers on Saturday. They are needing a win here and this might be their best option. Especially given the fact that next weekend they have to face Michigan.

I hate to say it, but I don't think they have a very good chance of beating the Wolverines this year. Even though the game is at home. MSU does have an ability to play higher than their potential for this rivalry game, but I'm afraid it just might not be enough.

Likewise on Sunday, the Lions have a big game against Tampa Bay. It's not that they need to beat them but for the Lions we need to get as many wins as often as we can. You never know what is going to happen and securing a spot in the playoffs early should be the first priority for them.

The MLB playoffs are in full swing and before long we are going to be in the middle of the world series. I have to be honest, I haven't followed baseball as closely as I had planned this summer, but I might be willing to watch a few games in the post season. Especially if some of the non traditional teams make it.

Finally, there has been a lot of controversy lately in the football world over a new play that really isn't that new. The "Brotherly Shove" or "Tush Push" is a play that the Eagles have been using a lot lately to get that extra bit of yardage on the field.

Plays like this were previously banned to protect the players, but more recently there was a rule change that now allows them to use it. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I definitely see the potential for injury. Think about the crowd rush at a concert or stories you hear of people being trampled and then imagine it's a bunch of 300 pound our more muscular guys doing the shoving.

There is no way someone doesn't end up getting hurt or having a collapsed lung at some point. I think it is a matter of time before the rules get changed again and plays like this are not acceptable anymore. Unfortunately, it is likely going to require someone or several people getting hurt to make them realize that.

Have you seen this play? How do you feel about it?
