The Stage is Set

We've been rushing towards this point for close to five months now, and finally the stage is set. With the NCAA football championship game tonight and the bulk of the NFL playoff schedule completed, it shaped up to be an awesome weekend. I don't really even know if you can count the game tonight as part of the weekend. I guess if you consider it is a long holiday weekend due to Martin Luther King Jr. day, that might be something. They don't really celebrate that in my neck of the woods though, so it is just another day here.

They save that for more prestigious days like the first day of firearm deer season... don't even get me started...

In any event, if you are a night owl, the Indiana/Miami game is taking place tonight. I will probably stay up to watch a bit of it, but there is likely no way I am going watch the whole thing. Unless we get early word that there will not be school tomorrow due to an impending snowstorm, I will likely be in bed at my usual weekday time of 8:30 PM.

Probably the biggest news of the weekend as of right now were the NFL playoff games that happened on Saturday and Sunday. With the wild card weekend out of the way, we got into the meat of the games this weekend. Things started off with a bang as Buffalo and Denver faced off. In true scripted NFL fashion (I'm only slightly kidding), the game went into overtime and after a few questionable calls depending on which side you are a fan for, the Broncos came away with the 33 to 30 victory.

I was actually busy watching the Michigan State Basketball game, so I missed all but the very end of the game. I honestly didn't care which team won that game. I like both the Broncos and the Bills. It's just sad that once again the Bills fell short after a pretty great season. That seems to be their MO lately. As a Lions fan I can totally relate. You could absolutely see it in Allen's face at the end of the game.

As much as I hate to say it, right now Seattle is looking like the team to beat. They had a crushing victory over San Francisco 41 to 6. Right from the beginning of the game there was very little question how things were going to go. I only watched a little bit of it before I decided to head to bed.

Then yesterday we had Houston face off against the Patriots. It was actually a pretty intense game and if it hadn't been for the defense of New England, it might have been a lot closer. Despite the more lopsided victory than a couple of the other games (Patriots 28, Houston 16), I still think Seattle is standing out as the top team right now. They seem to be firing on all cylinders and have the momentum behind them.

Finally, we have the heart breaking Rams/Bears game that took place last night. This was another instance where I didn't really care which team won. Unlike a lot of the state of Michigan, I don't hate the head coach for the Bears who left the Lions. I wish him the best of luck. I also don't hate Stafford on the Rams side of the equation. He gave us a lot of hard years in Detroit.

Ultimately, The Rams came away with the 20 to 17 victory, and now we just have to wait and see what happens next weekend when The Patriots face the Broncos and The Rams take on the Seahawks. With the Broncos QB injured and unlikely to start, I think it could lean in favor of the Patriots.

Is it possible we will see a Patriots/Seahawks Superbowl?
