Tiffin Dragons Make a Good Showing

When I last left you, it was Friday morning and the Tiffin Dragons softball team had just beaten Northwood University the night before in an epic 13 inning show down. With a final score of 8 to 5, Tiffin was heading on to the quarterfinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.

On Friday they had to first get past Trevecca Nazarene before they could face off once again against the Findlay team that had given them their only loss thus far in the tournament.

It was a pretty epic battle with the starting pitcher getting hit twice by balls hit straight back at her. The first one hit her in the shoulder and the next one hit her in the face. Thank goodness she was wearing a mask or it could have been horrible.

Despite going down from the ball to the face, she got back up and ended up finishing the game and taking the Dragons to a 3 - 0 win over Trevecca. It was a pretty great game to watch and I am so glad that we are able to do that from afar.

The world of sports streaming has grown so much. I think a lot of that is due in part to Covid. Even small K-12 school districts have the ability to stream sports now.

Hats off to the GMAC for having the resources and the foresight to offer us the ability to stream. Their service isn't perfect, but it is free and it is greatly appreciated when @mrsbozz and I can't make to to the games in person.

Being the 8 seed in the tournament, the ladies surprised a lot of people and made it much further than I think most expected them to. I am so proud of them. They even had a chance to celebrate and do some interviews for the conference broadcast.

In the end, the Findlay team came out on top again and they beat the Dragons later that night 5 to 1.

Findlay then went on to play Hillsdale in the finals. Since Hillsdale had yet to lose a game, Findlay had to beat them twice to earn the title. They won the first game 3 to 2, but they lost the second game 9 to 1. Thus giving Hillsdale the conference title.

In other news, due to their outstanding seasons, Hillsdale and Ohio Dominican earned bids to the NCAA Division II Regional contest. Which honestly I think is a bunch of crap.

I'm not saying Tiffin should have been invited, but they did beat Ohio Dominican in the first round of the tournament. Then OD lost to another team to get knocked out of the tournament early. Sure, they had a good regular season, but we all know it is how you finish.

Personally, I don't think they should have been invited.

Perhaps one day though, Tiffin will make their way to the NCAA Regional Contest.

That's all I have. My niece should be moved out of her dorm by now and spending the summer getting ready for Fall ball next year!
