Two Down

Well, the playoff picture is starting to take shape with two more teams being knocked out of the running. I already mentioned the other day that Toronto sent the New York Yankees packing, but last night in an 11th inning heart breaker, The Los Angeles Dodgers bested the Philadelphia Phillies to knock them out of the playoffs.
To be more accurate, the Phillies bested themselves. It's actually interesting because a couple of the commentators were just talking the other day about how hard it is for pitchers to make those easy throws from the mound to either first base or home plate. Actually, if you ask @mrsbozz, I was yelling at the screen because one of the commentators was arguing it shouldn't be that hard.
While that seems true on the surface, you have to remember these guys are used to throwing 100 MPH, not a lazy lob to base. On top of that, in the middle of a game, your adrenaline is going out of control and more than once balls have went sailing wide or high due to that fact.
My niece used to be softball pitcher and now she coaches. She said that the throw from the mound to first base when the ball gets hit back to the pitcher is the hardest throw to make. I've never played baseball outside of elementary school recess, so maybe @brianphobos can speak to whether or not that is true. I trust my niece though.
Meanwhile, The Cubs managed to blank the Brewers to keep their hopes alive and force a game five on Saturday.
That means we have the Tigers versus Seattle tonight in a decisive game five and then Chicago and Milwaukee on Saturday in a similar scenario. After that, it's a mad dash to find out which two teams are going to face off in the World Series.
As for college football, we are entering week 7 already, and the pressure is starting to kick up a notch for teams hoping to make it to the post season.
If I had to pick a couple of games to focus on this weekend, the first is going to be number 1 Ohio State versus number 17 Illinois. At least on paper Ohio State should win this game, but it's in Champagne/Urbana, so it is hard to say what might actually happen.
While you are watching that game, you also might want to flip over to the number 8 Alabama versus number 14 Missouri game. Missouri is undefeated so far this season, so this match up against Bama could net them their first loss.
While some people might consider Ohio State versus Illinois the marquee match up of the day, I think the bigger game is going to be number 7 Indiana at number 3 Oregon. Both teams are undefeated and Indiana is looking good this season. Do they have enough to stop Oregon at Oregon though? That's going to be a tough road. Hopefully, it should be a good game. Likely quite high scoring, but don't hold me to that.
There is another big game in the Big Ten when number 15 Michigan takes on USC in Southern California. Both teams are 4-1 on the season, so this could be a good battle. Personally, I'm cheering for USC. I'd also keep an eye on that number 18 BYU vs. Arizona game and number 21 Arizona State vs. Utah. BYU is undefeated still this season and all the other teams only have 1 loss. There could be some season defining moments in those games.
As for me, I am going to for sure be watching the UCLA vs. Michigan State game at my campsite, and I hope the magic the Bruins had against Penn State was just a flash in the pan. Michigan State can't afford another loss to a team they should be able to beat.
The schedule only gets harder from here with Indiana, Michigan, and Penn State waiting in the wings.
