Unconventional

To say my sports watching this weekend was unconventional would be a bit of an understatement. In fact, the amount of time I spent watching sports on TV was pretty minimal. Instead, I spent more of my time watching some softball live and believe it or not, listening to sports on the radio like they did back in the day.
As I mentioned in the post from my main account, @mrsbozz and I took a trip down to Virginia this past weekend to see our niece play softball with her university team. On the way, we listened to a fair amount of baseball, college football, and NFL football on the Sirius/XM satellite radio my brother in law has in their vehicle.
I have Sirius/XM as well in both of my cars, but it's pretty rare that I ever listen to sports since I love listening to music so much. It was pretty cool though to sit and listen to the games as we drove through the mountains and talked about all manner of things.
Since I missed posting on Friday and Monday this weekend, there is a lot to unpack in the sports world. I'm just going to start with the college football games today and then move on to NFL tomorrow and finally, MLB on Thursday. It's going to be hard waiting so long to talk about the upcoming World Series match up, but you are just going to have to suffer with me!
So yeah, Louisville stunned Miami Friday night upsetting them 24 to 21 and moving the Cardinals up to the number 19 spot and the Hurricanes down to the number 9 spot from number 2. I actually am not super surprised by that one, though I probably would have leaned more towards Miami a week ago.
Minnesota stunned Nebraska and knocked them back out of the top 25 by winning their home game 24 to 6. It's a tough loss for a Nebraska team that seemed to have a bit of momentum behind them this season.
On Saturday there were three ranked match ups in the SEC. That was the big story of the day along with everyone speculating who will be the new head coach at Penn State after they fired their old one.
Given the performance of Michigan State lately, My brother in law and I said we wouldn't mind at all if he ended up going to MSU. The problem is, this is only the second year for John Smith at Michigan State, so I doubt they will cut ties with him this soon despite our dismal season so far.
Anyway, I was talking about the SEC, and Vandy had a huge win over LSU 31 to 24 moving the Commodores to number 10 and shoving LSU down into the number 20 spot. The second big SEC match up over the weekend was number 8 Ole Miss at number 5 Georgia. Georgia claimed the home victory 43 to 35 in what was a offense heavy game.
As I said, Michigan State has been struggling, but they put up at least 13 points in their 38 to 13 loss against number 2 Indiana. I'm actually impressed because I kind of expected Indiana to put up twice as many points as they did. Well done Spartans, you didn't get totally decimated.
I think I called this one last week, but number 24 Arizona State had a nice upset win over number 14 Texas Tech putting an end to what looked like a race to the top of the rankings for the Red Raiders. The final score was 26 to 22 in favor of the Sun Devils.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M moved up to the number 3 position in the country after a close 45 to 42 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Virginia moves up to the number 16 spot as they had a nice homecoming weekend victory over Washington State 22 to 20. I was actually on campus for some of the homecoming festivities Friday night and it was pretty cool to see. In fact, the photo above is from the University of Virginia softball complex on Friday night before their game against Radford University.
Texas needed overtime to beat Kentucky 16 to 13 in a defense heavy game. This moves the Texas Longhorns to number 22. USC had a big rivalry game against Notre Dame this weekend, but fell short 34 to 24 as the number 12 Fighting Irish were just too much to handle.
The final big SEC game of the day was number 17 Tennessee losing to number 4 Alabama 37 to 20. Number 15 Missouri needed double overtime to beat Auburn 23 to 17.
Finally, number 11 BYU had a big win over Utah 24 to 21 to maintain their undefeated season.
Wow, this got long, so I will close for now and hit you with more sports goodness tomorrow!
