Winding Down

It seems like just the other day we were getting ready to start the softball season and now here we are winding things down. I kind of let time slip away from me and when I logged in today to look at the Tiffin schedule for my oldest niece, I notice that they only have one double header left in their season.

It takes place this coming weekend at Ashland University. I've never heard of that school before, but I am guessing it is somewhere down in Ohio.

I'm not sure if there is any kind of playoffs at this university level, but with a record of 20-23 right now, I am not sure they would be making it anyway. Their current conference record is 12-10, so that isn't too bad. Hopefully they can sweep this weekend to end with a 14-10 record.

This has definitely been a building year for the Tiffin team. They have new coach who I think came in part way through last season.

It has to be hard, the new coach is working to integrate the players that the old coach recruited as well as the new players that she recruited herself. Different coaches have different styles and coming into a situation like that can be a daunting task.

The good news is, in a couple of years, the players recruited by the old coach should be gone and the current coach can focus on building something that is 100% hers. I look forward to watching what they develop into over the next four years.

While my oldest niece is staring at the finish line of her first year of university and her first year playing softball at that level, her younger sister still has at least 7 games left in her high school season.

At 2-13 on the season, it has been a rough year. The good news is, my niece is kicking butt despite the chaos around her. She hit an RBI double last night and another Home Run. She is basically committed to beast mode'ing her way through this season.

Unless the OHSAA gives everyone a shot at bracket play, I don't expect this team is going to be in the playoffs. If they do make it due to some participation rule, I don't seem them advancing very far.

Perhaps they will surprise me though. One of the two wins they have on the season was against a pretty decent team.

Either way, with school ball coming to a close, I am looking forward to watching one or both of them excel in summer ball. It should be a fun season!
