Family Fantasy Football League Week Nine: No Luck Like Bad Luck

There is a saying that goes something like "if I didn't have bad luck, I would have no luck". That is apparently the case with my fantasy football team. In a week where my sister-inlaw's team had an absolutely miserable showing, my team managed to be just a bit more horrible and I once again came away with the loss.

At 3 and 6 on the season with a total score of 849.22 points, I am in sole possession of the last place spot in our league.

If you haven't been able to tell by my posts these past couple of weeks, it hurts. Yeah, my pride is definitely scorned, but also something else. Something deeper. I love football. I shouldn't be this bad. It's like defying the laws of physics for me to be this bad this many years in a row.

Okay, maybe not physics, but definitely probability.

I do research, I pick big names and sometimes not so big names. I tend to take chances on rookies who are looking to make a name for themselves. I guarantee half of my in-laws don't put nearly as much time and effort into their teams and yet here I sit at the bottom.

It hurts.

As you can see, Mahomes had a pretty bad game against the Packers. I think in the past two weeks he hasn't broke 20 points combined, so it might be time to move along from him. At the very least I start using my backup (who scored more points this week by the way).

I literally have nothing good to say about anyone on my starting roster besides Jefferson and maybe Kirk. Everyone else just didn't seem to care this past weekend. Edmonds got hurt, so I guess he might have an excuse, but quite honestly that holds very little weight with me at this point in the season.

Part of me wants to just clean house and start over, but I would be basically digging for scraps at this point. Another part of me still believes that this was just bad luck and things will get better next week. There will come a point where I stop believing it when I tell myself that. I am about one or two more losses away from that point.

My bench definitely could have saved me this week if I had just played things differently. Cousins in place of Mahomes, Kittle in place of Andrews. I knew that Kittle was finally active again, but given it was his first week back from IR, I wasn't sure it was the smartest move to play him.

I guess I am not as good at this as I would like to think.

Clearly...

Playing the Cleveland defense would have been the smarter play too. They haven't been that stellar this year though. I guess it was the in-state rivalry with Cincinnati that brought it out in them.

The good news is my wife is still on her hot streak. She now sits in a five way tie for third place, but her total points on the season pushes her to the top of that tie. Just a couple more wins and she might be in contention for the playoffs this year.

Even though I am doing horrible, I am happy to see that she is having some success.

Fingers cross next week turns out better for me.

Again, if you have any pointers, I would be happy to hear them. Right now, I need all the help I can get!
