Family Fantasy Football Week 14: A pair of wins!

As you can tell by the title of this post, it was a quite exciting week for my wife and I as far as fantasy football is concerned. Even though I am happy to have gotten a win, it still doesn't impact my chances of making it to the playoffs too much. I am all but destined to watch from the sidelines (or the consolation bracket).

Before we get to my numbers let's talk about how my wife's team did. It appears her opponent didn't have time to adjust her lineup or she was subject to several misfortunes, because going into the game on Monday night her team was finished playing and she only have 70 some points.

The bad news is my wife only had about 50 some points and the two players she had left to play can sometimes be a bit unreliable.

Lucky for us, it was not one of those nights last night. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp combined to score close to 40 points for my wife and push her past her sister for the victory. I am really proud of her. Of course, she is going to be devastated if her team doesn't win it all this year, but she should make it to the playoffs and at least have a shot.

Looking at my team, there isn't too much to be mad about here. Mahomes had a pretty decent game which is a shocker here. The only bad thing is the fact that Kansas City went up by so many points so quickly. This led them to run the ball pretty much the rest of the game and running the ball means hardly any points for the QB.

Luckily, my other players stepped up and filled the gap. Trust me, I am not complaining about 20 points from my QB, but really that is the minimum I expect from that position.

This week was a really good example of how (almost) all your players putting up average numbers can be just as good as one player having a breakout weekend.

All of my wide receivers but one scored at least 10 points. That is what I love to see. Mooney was one of the two big let downs for me this week and I am not sure what I will do about him moving forward. I will need to look at his numbers over the past weeks and make a decision. It could have just been an off weekend for him.

My two running backs combined averaged at least 10 points a piece. That is also something I like to see. Williams was actually a little shy, but Barkley more than made up for it for him. Zero issues with these two.

Kittle had a monster game and that is likely what propelled me to the victory. If he had been closer to the average of 10 points, it would have been a much closer contest. Andrews also had a monster game at tight end. I am loving what I am seeing there!

Butker was a last minute add for me because my kicker was on bye and I didn't realize it. Luckily like I said above, Kansas City scored a lot in their game, so Butker more than paid for himself.

Finally, my defense was horrible. I will explain more about that when I show the bench, but you can see they only scored 1 point.

As you can see, I did a horrible job of managing my bench this weekend. I still came out with the win, but I could have done much better for myself point wise...

If I had been paying more attention I would have realized that Gordon was playing against the Lions this weekend. That right there is a recipe for success and he should have clearly had a spot in my roster.

On top of that, I knew that Buffalo was playing Tampa Bay which usually is never a good thing to go up against Brady when the playoffs are right around the corner. It would have been a much better idea for me to play the Cleveland defense and take those 14 points. Either way the result was the same, but man, I totally muffed those calls.

there isn't much my opponent could have done to change the outcome looking at his bench. After this loss, he and I now have the same record.

That moves me up to 6th place and with one more win and a lot of luck, I could possibly squeak into the playoffs. My wife is in third place and with a record of 8-6 pretty much guaranteed to be in the playoffs. I might have to covertly swap some of my better players to her to ensure that she has a better chance in the playoffs!

There you have it, only a couple more weeks and you won't have to listen to me whine about how horrible my team is anymore!

She used to compete in basketball, volleyball, and track back in high school, so she has a big sports background. Everyone in her family played at some point in high school.

There have been weeks where I totally forgot to adjust my team at all and ended up destroying my competition because of it. I overthink my teams and sometimes, just sometimes, dumb luck is better than what I think are correct choices.

Yes, I overthink way too much. It is horrible. I wish I could just go with the flow, but the temptation to manipulate my team is usually just too great!
