Fantasy Football Week 6 Recap: Too Good To Last

I should have known it was too good to last. I had something like three wins in a row and then I run into a wall this week. Quite a big wall too given the fact that I only scored 82 points. That is pretty horrible. I know I had a fair number of injuries this week, but I still think my team is relatively solid. I might just chalk this up to a bad week for a couple of players and move forward as usual.

The problem is we are starting to get into bye weeks and before long I am going to have players out and I may not have anyone to replace them with. My wife also suffered a pretty horrible loss this week as well. It sucks because if you are just looking at points, she is third in the league. However if you are looking at wins, she is down in last place. I really feel like there needs to be a better metric to score this stuff. If not for the individual matchups at least for the weekly league rankings.

I can tell she is starting to get deflated again and pretty much to the point where she just doesn't care anymore. It usually takes us both a bit longer to get to that point, but here we are at week six already feeling the hopelessness.

It is pretty easy to see where the breakdowns were with my team looking at the numbers...

Mahomes had a pretty average game, nothing spectacular, but nothing that I can really complain about. Twenty four points isn't the end of the world when it comes to a quarter back.

Jefferson was relatively unimpressive and likely would have had better numbers had that fumble not occurred. Sutton did his job brining in fifteen points. I can't be mad about that. Even Johnson is a little acceptable with 9 point. I would like to see it closer to fifteen like Sutton, but oh well.

Edmonds apparently had little part in the 37 to 14 win over Cleveland. For a score that high I would have expected a lot more rushing yards. That is something that I am going to have to keep an eye on in the future. Besides one game in week three or four, his numbers honestly haven't been that great. I might have to make a move sooner rather than later.

Williams I am on the fence about. Detroit got manhandled this past weekend. I kind of blame that on the team more than I do Williams. His numbers haven't been great through the first part of the year, but they have at least been average or a little below. I am willing to give him another shot in week 7 before I make a final decision on keeping or dropping.

Andrews did well. Enough said.

Toney on the other hand... Not so much. He was a recent pick up off the waiver wire and while his past numbers were looking pretty good, he totally let me down this week. That is usually the case when I start moving players around. It probably doesn't help that the Giants were up against Stafford and the Rams, but still. I just don't know what to do at this point.

Buffalo had a bad game. It was a heartbreaker of a loss to the Titans. It was a high scoring game on both sides. I have zero doubt the defense will rebound and play better in the future. Stuff happens and in this case, it pretty much all happened to me in one week.

It doesn't look like my bench would have been much help to me this week. Sure, Kirk had a decent game and he might have been a good choice at wide receiver instead of Toney or Jefferson. Everyone else is either injured or just as horrible. I would really be awesome to have a health Barkley back in my lineup, but that just doesn't seem very likely at this point.

Part of me wonder if it is worth holding onto these players who are on injured reserve or if I should just drop the dead weight. There is always the chance that they will come back the second half of the season and play some phenomenal games. There is also the chance that they either never come back, or they are never 100% even if they do.

Much like my wife, I am starting to be over it already. Right now there is a 90% chance that we will not being having a league again next year. Although I said the same thing last year... and the year before...

Ugh!

Is this quite relatable to Premier League Fantasy football?

Yes, probably pretty similar. Just different players and a different sport.

Although i missed the cutoff date this year I went all in on Mahomes last year and this resulted in big lapses in the rest of my lineup. He puts up good numbers, but when your (my) team depends on him playing flawlessly every week, there are weaknesses that's for sure. The guy who won our league last year had no on paper standouts but he clearly had a plan. He was selecting his team the way the Oakland A's did in Moneyball and it worked out for him in the end.

I feel like that is what I need to do one of these years. Just stick with the team that is drafted to me and see how it turns out. I feel like a lot of times I shoot myself in the foot because I am over thinking or trying too hard.
