RE: I lose the championship game in bowling at the last possible moment

Ah man, that sucks. I am sorry. At least now you don't have the pressure of trying to maintain the title. I know when I was bowling splits like that you didn't even try for the kick. You just aimed at two of them and tried to get them down. At our skill level if you tried to get fancy you ended up missing them all!

In a way I am happy I didn't win because the person who has a shot at the belt this upcoming week is a guy that "powders his shoes" on the lanes. This means that everyone else that uses the same lane will be facing potential slipping hazards and when I nearly bust my ass this seriously throws me off my game.

Using powder on your feet in real competitions is against the rules and you will be disqualified because of it. The only "slide" that you are allowed to obtain has to be provided by the surface of the shoes.

I have been in situations where the lane conditions, such as powder being present, has made me nearly fall and then that was stuck in my mind for the rest of the game and it screwed me up because now I was just focused on not falling down instead of putting the ball where it needs to be.

As far as trying to pick up big splits are concerned yes, this is how we handle them and it is how the pros handle them as well. I think that it is a good idea to roll harder than you normally would and hope for some ricochet action from the pins you hit. The difference between getting a 6 and an 8 unless you are playing off a strike from the previous frame doesn't make much difference on the overall score so you may as well go for it.

I've never heard of that before, the whole powdering thing. I can see how it could be a hazard and a distraction.

You've probably never heard of it because if you try to do it in USA the owners of the bowling alley will make you stop doing it.
