Wtorek był ostatnią okazją na wypad z teściem za miasto. Od środy do wyjazdu w przyszłym tygodniu czeka mnie dużo pracy, więc pomimo niekorzystnej prognozy pogody wybraliśmy się do Ostendy nad belgijskie morze. Według prognozy pogody dopiero od 16 miało padać, mieliśmy więc kilka godzin na szwendanie się po mieście.

[ENG] Tuesday was the last opportunity for a trip out of town with my father-in-law. I have a lot of work to do between Wednesday and my departure next week, so despite the unfavourable weather forecast we went to Ostend by the Belgian sea. According to the weather forecast, it was only supposed to rain from 4pm onwards, so we had a few hours to wander around the city.

Na początek przeszliśmy obok zacumowanego na stałe trzymasztowego żaglowca Mercator, zbudowany w Szkocji, został zwodowany w 1932 roku, przez ponad 20 lat tylko dwóch kapitanów na nim dowodziło, w tym czasie odbył 41 rejsów po prawie wszystkich morzach i oceanach globu. Od 1960 roku cumuje w Ostendzie i jest jedną z najchętniej odwiedzanych atrakcji miasta. My ograniczyliśmy się do obejrzenia go z zewnątrz (kilka lat temu dokładniej go oglądaliśmy w środku). Na deptaku wzdłuż plaży żona kupiła sobie gofra, kiedy tylko wyszła z baru z gofrem w ręku na zewnątrz od tyłu podleciała mewa i wyszarpnęła całego gofra z ręki. Sytuacja najpierw żonę zszokowała, ale po chwili śmiała się z innymi na deptaku, obserwując, jak kilka mew rozdziela między siebie belgijski smakołyk.

[ENG] To start, we walked past the permanently moored three-masted sailing ship Mercator, built in Scotland, it was launched in 1932, for more than 20 years only two captains commanded it, during which time it made 41 voyages on almost all the seas and oceans of the globe. It has been moored in Ostend since 1960 and is one of the city's most visited attractions. We limited ourselves to seeing it from the outside (a few years ago we had a more thorough look inside). On the promenade along the beach, my wife bought herself a waffle, as soon as she left the bar with the waffle in her hand outside a seagull flew up from behind and snatched the whole waffle out of her hand. The situation shocked the wife at first, but after a while she laughed with others on the promenade as she watched several seagulls distribute the Belgian treat among themselves.

Powyżej zdjęcie sprawcy, albo wspólnika :) Krótko po tej przygodzie z drapieżną mewą stało się jasne, że prognoza pogody była zła, ulewy i burze zbliżały się szybciej do Ostendy niż to prognozowano. Już przed 14 serwowaliśmy się ucieczką do auta, zanim do niego doszliśmy zdążyło nas porządnie zmoczyć. Z nadzieją obserwowałem aplikację pogodową, wychodziło z tego, że deszczowe chmury przyszły z zachodu i w okolicach Dunkierki powinno już być ładnie. Zanim tam dojechaliśmy nadeszła kolejna deszczowa chmura, nie było sensu nawet wysiadać, a czekać, aż przejdzie nie miało sensu, bo Windy pokazywała, że tak będzie z przerwami do wieczora.

[ENG] Above, a photo of the perpetrator, or an accomplice :) Shortly after this predatory seagull adventure, it became clear that the weather forecast was bad, with downpours and storms approaching Ostend faster than forecast. Already before 2pm we were serving ourselves by fleeing to the car, by the time we reached it it had managed to get us decently wet. I kept a hopeful eye on the weather app, it said that rain clouds had come from the west and it should be nice in the Dunkirk area by now. By the time we got there, another rain cloud had arrived, there was no point in even getting out of the car, and there was no point in waiting for it to pass, as Windy was showing that it would continue intermittently into the evening.
