W związku z tym, że wczoraj działo się nie wiele, zapraszam was na do przejścia podziemnego pod Bulwarem Winston'a Churchill'a, czyli popularnym ringiem otaczającym centrum Mons. W ramach ostatniej edycji artystycznego miasta powstał tam mural "Tunnel de la Paix" (Tunel pokoju), jest on dziełem grupy L’atelier de Dessin d’Arts². Arts2 to wyższa szkoła artystyczna zlokalizowana w Mons. Wielowątkowe dzieło w tunelu łączącym centrum miasta z parkiem Dodo zostało wykonane przez dwudziestu młodych artystów.

[ENG] Due to the fact that not much happened yesterday, I invite you to the underground passage under Winston Churchill Boulevard, a popular ring surrounding the center of Mons. As part of the last edition of the artistic city, the mural "Tunnel de la Paix" (Tunnel of Peace) was created there, it is the work of the L'atelier de Dessin d'Arts² group. Arts2 is an art college located in Mons. The multi-threaded work in the tunnel connecting the city centre with Dodo Park was created by twenty young artists.

Jedna strona poświęcona jest I wojnie światowej, a przeciwna strona tunelu poświęcona jest II wojnie światowej. Przy wejściu od strony parku Dodo znajduje się poruszający wiersz "Na polach Flandrii" kanadyjskiego poety, lekarza i żołnierza I wojny światowej, Johna McCrae. W skrócie "wiersz opowiada o czerwonych makach, które masowo rozkwitły na grobach poległych w bitwie żołnierzy". Skojarzenie maków jako symbolu poległych zostało następnie przyjęte w krajach anglosaskich. Maki noszone są przypięte do ubrania lub zamocowane do atrap chłodnicy w samochodach. Czerwony kwiat maku stał się głównym symbolem Dnia Pamięci, obchodzonego 11 listopada. Cytat z wiersza McCrea znajduje się także na kanadyjskim banknocie dziesięciodolarowym.

[ENG] One side is dedicated to World War I and the opposite side of the tunnel is dedicated to World War II. At the entrance from Dodo Park there is a moving poem "In Flanders Fields" by the Canadian poet, doctor and World War I soldier, John McCrae. In short, "the poem tells the story of red poppies that bloomed en masse on the graves of soldiers who died in battle." The association of poppies as a symbol of the fallen was subsequently adopted in Anglo-Saxon countries. Poppies are worn pinned to clothes or attached to radiator grilles in cars. The red poppy flower has become the main symbol of Remembrance Day, celebrated on November 11. A quote from McCrea's poem also appears on the Canadian ten-dollar bill.

Na końcu tunelu przy wyjściu do centrum miasta przeczytamy slogan "Le fascisme, c'est la gangrène, on l'élimine ou en creve." (Faszyzm to gangrena, wyeliminujemy go lub zginiemy).

[ENG] At the end of the tunnel, at the exit to the city center, we will read the leftist slogan "Le fascisme, c'est la gangrène, on l'élimine ou en creve." (Fascism is gangrene, we eliminate it or we die).
