Wróciliśmy dziś po południu do Mons po czterech intensywnych dniach w przepięknej Barcelonie. Szkoda było wyjeżdżać, ale z drugiej strony – jak żyć w mieście wiecznie pełnym turystów? O ile czwartek był bardzo przyjemny, o tyle piątek i sobota wymagały już „rozpychania się łokciami” na La Rambla. Należy pamiętać, że to i tak zaledwie namiastka tego, co dzieje się tam w szczycie sezonu. Nie dziwię się lokalnym ruchom protestującym przeciwko nadmiernej turystyce – mimo że spora część miasta z niej żyje (i to całkiem nieźle, bo Barcelona do tanich nie należy).

[ENG] We returned to Mons this afternoon after four intense days in beautiful Barcelona. It was hard to leave, but on the other hand—how can anyone live in a city constantly packed with tourists? While Thursday was very pleasant, Friday and Saturday already required "elbowing your way through" La Rambla. And mind you, that was just a fraction of what goes on there during the peak tourist season. I'm not surprised by the local movements protesting to limit the number of tourists, even though a huge part of the city makes a living from them—and quite a good one at that, since Barcelona is certainly not cheap.

Po powrocie do Mons musieliśmy wyskoczyć na chwilę do centrum. Wracając do domu, trafiliśmy na otwarcie wystawy lokalnego artysty, Alfredo Longo. Jego dzieła powstają z recyklingu, głównie z puszek. Czytając o tym, że w Polsce wciąż ktoś narzeka na kulejący system kaucyjny, pomyślałem, że to może być ciekawy sposób na wykorzystanie zalegających po weekendzie puszek po piwie. Wernisaż zorganizowano z okazji 20-lecia jego działalności; wszystkie prace są na sprzedaż, choć ceny mogą szokować.

[ENG] After getting back to Mons, we had to pop into the city center for a moment. On our way home, we stumbled upon the opening of an exhibition by a local artist, Alfredo Longo. His works are made from recycled materials, primarily aluminum cans. Reading how people in Poland are constantly complaining about the struggling deposit-refund system, I thought this might be a way to repurpose the beer cans left over after a weekend. The vernissage marked 20 years of his artistic career; all the pieces on display are for sale, though the prices might be shocking.
