Po czterech dniach biegania na terenie bazy nadszedł czas na zmianę scenerii. Mons w środku tygodnia to okolice kampusu, zielone parki, belgijskie bulwary obsadzone platanami i całkiem urokliwy staw z makami na nowym osiedlu za stadionem. A wszystko to znowu z jednym konkretnym zadaniem: tętno poniżej 142 bpm. To był kolejny z pozoru łatwy bieg, który w rzeczywistości wymagał ciągłego kontrolowania pulsu i korygowania tempa.

[ENG] After four days of running around the base, it was time for a change of scenery. Mid-week Mons offered the campus area, green parks, Belgian boulevards lined with plane trees, and a rather charming pond with poppies in a new housing estate behind the stadium. And all of this came once again with one specific task: keeping my heart rate below 142 bpm. It was another seemingly easy run that actually required constant heart rate monitoring and pace adjustments.

Trasa miejska rządzi się innymi prawami niż bieg po spokojnym terenie bazy. Mamy tu sygnalizację świetlną, chodniki, pieszych, rowery i skrzyżowania, ale z punktu widzenia ciekawskiego biegacza taka trasa jest o wiele bardziej wciągająca. Mons około godziny 16:00 ma swój specyficzny rytm, regulowany przez korki blokujące drogi dojazdowe do centrum. Z tego powodu dystans między moim mieszkaniem a centrum można pokonać zdecydowanie szybciej biegiem niż samochodem.

[ENG] An urban route follows different rules than running on the quiet grounds of the base. There are traffic lights, sidewalks, other pedestrians, bicycles, and intersections, but from a curious runner's perspective, such a route is much more engaging. Around 4 PM, Mons has its own rhythm, dictated by traffic jams blocking the roads leading to the city center. Because of this, it’s much faster to cover the distance between my apartment and the center on foot than by car.

Trzymanie założonego tętna zakończyło się wynikiem 88%. Do piątego kilometra miałem wszystko pod kontrolą, ale później coraz trudniej było utrzymać puls poniżej 142 bpm. Na ostatnich dwóch kilometrach limit pękł – niedramatycznie, ale jednak. Zwolniłem nawet do 7:35 min/km, a tętno i tak nie chciało zejść niżej. To klasyczny objaw skumulowanego zmęczenia.

[ENG] Sticking to the target heart rate ended with an 88% success rate. Up until the fifth kilometer, I had everything under control, but after that, it became increasingly difficult to keep my pulse below 142 bpm. On the last two kilometers, the 142 limit broke—not drastically, but it broke. I slowed my pace down to 7:35 min/km, yet my heart rate still refused to drop. This is a classic symptom of cumulative fatigue.

Teraz do końca tygodnia nie będę miał już okazji biegać. Nadchodzący city break w nowym miejscu będzie zapewne wymagał długich spacerów, które posłużą za aktywną regenerację.

[ENG] Now, I won't have a chance to run for the rest of the week. A city break in a new location will likely involve long walks, which will serve as active recovery.
