W ramach regeneracji wybrałem się sam na spacer do centrum miasta. Żona nie chciała iść ze mną, ponieważ obawiała się tłumów w związku z Doudou. Na szczęście była to pora wczesnego popołudnia, kiedy Belgowie jeszcze odsypiali imprezę z poprzedniego dnia i dopiero szykowali się na sobotnią zabawę.

[ENG] As part of my recovery, I went for a solo walk to the city center. My wife didn't want to come along because she was afraid of the crowds associated with Doudou. Luckily, it was early afternoon, so the locals were still sleeping off the previous night's partying and were only just gearing up for Saturday's festivities.

Na uliczkach prowadzących do Grand Place było pusto, ale na samym placu pojawiali się już pierwsi chętni, by coś zjeść i się napić. Zaskoczyła mnie cena piwa, za które liczono sobie 2,50 euro. W porównaniu z cenami w restauracjach to dość tanio, choć tam wybór jest znacznie większy. Na stoiskach przed lokalami standardowo oferowany jest wyłącznie Jupiler, czyli najpopularniejszy belgijski lager. Dla porównania: ten sam kubek wody kosztuje 2 euro. Belgowie zapewne rzadko wybierają wodę, bo kiedy ją zamówiłem, barman aż trzy razy dopytywał, co dokładnie chcę.

[ENG] The streets leading to the Grand Place were empty, but the first festival-goers were already appearing on the square itself, looking for something to eat and drink. I was surprised by the price of beer, which was going for 2.50 euros. Compared to restaurant prices, that’s actually quite cheap, though restaurants obviously offer a wider selection. The stalls set up in front of the venues standardly serve nothing but Jupiler, the most popular Belgian lager. For comparison, a cup of water costs 2 euros. The Belgians likely rarely opt for water because when I ordered it, the bartender asked me three times to confirm what I wanted.
