Derbi madrileño a la vista // The Madrid derby is on the horizon
El día de mañana la liga española subirá el telón para un nuevo espectáculo, y en esta oportunidad se trata del partido entre el Real Madrid y el atlético de Madrid, un Derbi que como bien lo merece siempre viene con altas expectativas y profundas emociones que ya se empiezan a sentir muchas horas previas a este choque. Ambos equipos vienen con sendas victorias en Champions ante dos equipos ingleses, por lo cual el envión es a pleno desde lo anímico y también desde las pretenciones que cada equipo ahora tiene con respecto a la liga.
Tomorrow, the Spanish league will kick off a new spectacle, and this time it’s the match between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid – a derby that, as it rightly deserves, always comes with high expectations and intense emotions that are already beginning to be felt many hours before the clash. Both teams are coming off Champions League victories against two English sides, so morale is sky-high and each side’s ambitions for the league are now in full swing.

Mucho para perder por parte del Real mientras que el aleti sigue calentando motores para lo que a mí entender si es su objetivo número uno como lo es la champions, y más al ver que su rival será nada más y nada menos que otro grande español como lo es el Barcelona. Actualmente a cuatro puntos del puntero de la liga, el Real Madrid podría jugar bajo dos escenarios: con la presión de una posible victoria a primera hora por parte del Barca o con la oportunidad de oro de poder acercarse al líder si este tropieza ante el Rayo Vallecano. Con esto, los dos equipos madrileños podrían llegar con un enfoque distinto que obviamente no los aleja del blanco principal: ganar.
Curiosamente tanto el Madrid como el Aleti llegan con las bajas de sus porteros titulares, por lo cual me parece que en este caso la ausencia de Thibaut Courtois tiene un peso mayor, ya que en partidos como este el portero de la casa blanca siempre ha sido un factor determinante con sus atajadas tan espectaculares como oportunas. Por el lado de los del Cholo Simeone, Juan Musso llegará al Santiago Bernabéu con la difícil tarea de suplir al portero Oblak en un choque que desde el primer minuto estará cargado de muchas emociones por parte de la fanática madridista. Si hablamos de jugadores determinantes, Vinicius jr llega inspirado mientras Julián Álvarez mantiene ese ritmo de alto nivel que siempre lo hacen ver como un peligro latente sobre todo en partidos de este calibre.
Real have a lot to lose, whilst Atlético are still revving their engines for what I believe is their number one objective – the Champions League – especially given that their opponents will be none other than another Spanish giant: Barcelona. Currently four points behind the league leaders, Real Madrid could find themselves in one of two scenarios: under pressure from a potential early victory by Barça, or with a golden opportunity to close the gap on the leaders should they slip up against Rayo Vallecano. With this in mind, the two Madrid-based sides could approach the match with a different mindset, though one that obviously does not detract from their main objective: to win.
Interestingly, both Madrid and Atlético are without their first-choice goalkeepers, which is why I feel that Thibaut Courtois’s absence carries greater weight in this instance, as in matches like this the Real Madrid goalkeeper has always been a decisive factor with his saves, which are as spectacular as they are timely. As for Cholo Simeone’s side, Juan Musso will arrive at the Santiago Bernabéu with the difficult task of replacing goalkeeper Oblak in a clash that, from the very first minute, will be charged with high emotions from the Madrid fans. Speaking of key players, Vinicius Jr is in fine form, whilst Julián Álvarez maintains the high standard that always makes him a latent threat, particularly in matches of this calibre.
Recordemos que el partido de la primera vuelta entre estos dos equipos terminó con un 5 a 2 a favor de los colchoneros, mientras que el club blanco se tomó una pequeña revancha en las semifinales de la Supercopa de España (2-1), por lo que este partido tendrá ese plus que por lo general siempre está presente cuando se trata del Derbi madrileño. Mientras un equipo quiere seguir en la carrera por el título de la liga, el otro desea mantener ese impulso que los mantenga en buena sintonía de cara a las instancias finales en Champions, y vaya que en este último punto ambos necesitan salir bien parados y así mantener un buen nivel futbolístico muy importante para sus aspiraciones europeas.
Por estar en casa, el Real Madrid parte con leve favoritismo, mientras que el Aleti tiene todos los argumentos para salir del Santiago Bernabéu en plan victorioso. Un detalle adicional es el posible último Derby para Antoine Griezmann, jugador francés insignia de los colchoneros que al parecer estaría en el once inicial del Cholo. Con las piezas sobre la mesa, lo cierto es que mañana Domingo se espera una jornada con Derbi madrileño a la vista y con muchas posibilidades de ya empezar a definir la carrera por el título de la liga española. Pronostico reservado para un partido del cual esperamos nos pueda brindar un partido lleno no solo tensión sino también de mucha emoción.
Let’s not forget that the first-leg fixture between these two sides ended in a 5–2 victory for Atlético, whilst Real Madrid got a measure of revenge in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup (2–1), so this match will have that extra edge that’s usually always present when it comes to the Madrid derby. Whilst one team wants to stay in the race for the league title, the other is keen to maintain the momentum that will keep them on track for the Champions League knockout stages, and on this last point, both need to come out on top to maintain the high standard of football that is so crucial to their European ambitions.
As they are playing at home, Real Madrid are slight favourites, whilst Atlético have every reason to believe they can leave the Santiago Bernabéu victorious. Another factor is that this could be the final derby for Antoine Griezmann, the Colchoneros’ star French player, who is reportedly set to start for Cholo’s side. With all the cards on the table, the truth is that tomorrow, Sunday, we can look forward to a matchday featuring the Madrid derby, which could well begin to shape the race for the Spanish league title. Our prediction is reserved for a match that we hope will deliver not only tension but also plenty of excitement.
