My Actifit Report Card: August 28 2021
Was a clear blue sky day. The black dog said "turn over". It won. I did drag myself out. I raked one quarter of the back yard. Then got on the bike to go check on a leek orchid on a close by track.
Found another budding orchid close to one I saw last time
Tracked through a section of burned bush to see if there were any red beak orchids. They need fire to propagate. None but did reach the creek I have not reached before
Nice spot for a sit and rest if that was allowed. Tracked back to look for waxlips under the powerlines
Always a pea flower in spring
The mission did get a win. The leek orchid is flowering
Tall leek orchid - prasophyllum elatum - a first for me
Side on. Plant stands 2 foot tall. As I sat there an insect landed on the top flower
Well it was not an insect but a spider. How it got there on its web I do not know.
In the stop and explore mode one finds other things - a first grasshopper for the season
Like enough time to stop to photograph bee action
Not seen this flower before - fine textures
Did find a waxlip orchid in the grassy edges to the track
Paired up pea flower is pretty
Love this awakening photo of Sydney boronia - one opening and the rest waiting to burst open
I always like to find two orchids on a search - second glossodia minor also on the verge
First sun orchid getting ready to open
Did find one open - thelymitra ixioides
Standing tall guarding a curve in the track.
Did find a second on the other side of the track
A bigger pea flower. Funnily enough FB memories threw one up this time last year
Close up. The trail ends at the powerlines
View across to Wahroongah side
View across to Bobbin Head Road
Turned around to head back. Did meet a few people on the track and was sharing orchid spotting lessons. I got some converts. I may even see some on the tracks.
This flower caught my eye - it fills out from the bottom to create a ball of yellow flowers. It is cool.
Did find one more sun orchid lying on the ground. I propped it up with a stick to improve its chance of pollination
Walked as far as I rode dropping almost all the way to the creek and back up. Great place to walk albeit a bit short of orchid potential. The best bit is it is not well known.
Dinner: Chicken cashew nut stir fry
