My Actifit Report Card: August 29 2021
Blue sky morning turned into a grey day a bit like my mood these days. I have lost track of what day it is. The king parrots were around - this pair do not quite know how to share. The male is a but pushy
Photo of a new cluster of orchids tied to a branch last season - dendrobium kingianum
Close up of the pollinator - maybe 4 mm long.
Did get out to walk the local track to see if the white fingers orchids are flowering on the north side.
Climbed high up above the track in the hope of finding a sun orchid up there. No joy. Track is below the big tree and view across the creek.
One caladenia catenata open - 4 last year
Close up
One other plant just opening or just closing. I walked around below the track to see if any were down there. It is too dark for orchids to prosper.
Next mission is to check on progress of this greenhood. 4 plants in bud this side of the track but could not find one on the other side
This is the most advanced bud - known to flower in September. Nearly there.
A little further on was this budding chiloglottis - I missed them last walk the week before
Bingo. A flower open. Common ant orchid - green form
And as I was showing this off to some lady walkers I saw one right next to my knees - chiloglottis formicifera.
Track joins the main fire trail a little further on. There were a few orchids in flower in the next colony last week
Bursting forth this week - 5 flowers open and one bud.
Love the spider webs
Easy to see how this got its name - common ant orchid.
Over the shoulder photo.
Walked along the fire trail to see how bad the track work damage was. The mayfly orchids are gone.
The colonies of pterostylis acuminata are safe as they are above the track edges. This plant is pushing a leaf up on its spike - not seen that before. Crossed to the other side
A few new caladenia catenata here
Close up
This one has the slightest blush of pink.
The new track work has had a huge impact on the orchids. It depresses me to see the damage but I have to get out to keep an eye. We shall see how nature comes back week by week.
Spent the afternoon doing garden stuff planting out some colour for summer. Half the steps came from that. Do need temperatures to warm up at night to see stuff growing.
Dinner: Bbq
