My Actifit Report Card: September 5 2021

Forecast was for rain in the morning. My thinking was to walk the local track when that cleared away. Well the day did not work that way at all. It started sunny but it was windy. I did the walk early - idea was to be short as my knee is suffering from all the rock walking I have done this week

Walked the short loop of the local track. I know there will be orchids. Will there be any new flowers since the walk a week ago? I have one candidate. This white fingers orchid was out last week. Its mate has not made it.

Part of the mission is to check on progress of this greenhood. Still on its way and looking good

These common ant orchids are still going strong

Green form of chiloglottis formicifera. I did explore areas behind where the obvious flowers were - found the new orchid a day target.

Hidden away was this nodding greenhood - quite a few weeks after the others have finished. I was not expecting that but I was looking.

The full view including rosette - the secret to its late flowering is the darker location - pterostylis nutans

This colony of common ant orchids now has 6 flowers open - four last week - and a bud or two to come

Found this growing next to the creek. It looks like a garden escapee to me

Pterostylis pedunculata

Did check the colony of pterostylis oblonga - they have escaped damage from the track works but have now finished. Sure hope they seed before big rain brings clay down the small path they are on. The work above will change water flows. I might do some remediation work with a spade to channel overflow away from the path before that happens. Nice easy walk and did find some new orchids for the day.

Spent some time clearing clover from the front lawn - cannot really use poison until grass starts growing.
