My Actifit Report Card: September 7 2021
A stunning blue sky day. A friend told me there were buds for a flying duck orchid emerging on a track not far away. Got out there on the bike to walk the fire trail - second time only
Found the new orchid for the day opposite one I saw last time - spotted sun orchid
The track marker in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP
Fab soft colours
Found the flying duck orchid on the edge of the track - just one open
Signs of a few more alongside
Soon will get a bearded orchid
Milk maid twin - burchardia umbrellata
A new spring flower - really tiny like a US penny
Took a side track to edge of the cliffs - freedom is north that way. I could walk it entirely in national park to my house in Hunter Valley.
Got lots of bearded orchids to come back to
Pea flowers are ending. Met up with my friend Tess about here - had a good chat
Tracked to south side of the fire trail for view across Lovers Jump Creek to my suburb. Could walk from home
More flying duck orchid buds. This is exciting for me as I now have 5 locations close to home and there are two here - no - three as Tess's friend showed me another close by
We stumbled across a sun orchid growing in the pampas grass which surprised me. They hate competition
On the way back I found the small waxlip orchid I saw last time - looking tired now
This got me looking more thoroughly - found two close by - those are new
Glossodia minor
Subtle colour differences and one maybe 20 percent smaller
The track kept giving with another sun orchid
The light worked well for the photo - thelymitra ixioides. My friend had told me to be on the lookout for a fairy orchid. Getting a bit tight now to find one
Bang. Found not one but two - caladenia alata.
Been a good season for these - have found them in multiple locations on a few tracks
Small details catch my eye. This is only an inch tall at ground level
As I was looking for waxlips, I saw this little pea flower. Maybe 3 mm across.
I have learned to check the edges of tracks. This edge was on a wider area used as turning circle for the trucks that work the track - several orchids right there. Last time I did not skirt the edges
Glossodia minor
Been a really successful walk. Perfect time to check a side track that heads north and joins up with the track I am planning to do tomorrow. I walked to the edge of the escarpment - no orchid joy going out. Picture north across Cockle Creek to freedom was dull - I will walk it soon.
Did find signs of bearded orchids on the way back
This one is just a few days away
Found this creepy crawly chomping a lily. Will not tell it about the soft luscious orchids down the track
And right at the junction of the main fire trail was another caladenia alata - two plants
So a really successful walk with one new season find on a new track and 3 other new locations on the track. And there is more to come.
Did some garden tidy up with another few square metres of clover cleared.
Dinner: A mini tapas event - simple and easy
Trade action: Bought AVO, BBBY, HD, TMHC, WFC. Sold RSXJ. Also bought LINK altcoin using ETH.
