My Actifit Report Card: October 3 2021

A stunning day like an early summer. Cooked lunch for my wife and her friend - photos later. Vivienne gave me a much needed haircut after lunch. Went for a ride after that to look for an orchid bud I had seen in a few days back

Quick check to see if sun orchids are open - none. A few copper bearded orchids have opened since my last visit

A few new openers of calochilus campestris

I stopped to look at new onion orchids popping up in the mown edges - I did see two red spots with naked eye - just pinpricks

Zoomed in detail on a wind free day. Microtis parviflora with mite spiders

Had to take another photo of a week 3 orchid as it might make up the bearded orchid trifecta if I can find a red beard orchid. This is calochilus robertsonii

I was confident based on last visit

Calochilus paludosus - red bearded orchid

Found a cluster of five. Long chat with Danny and Jean right there. The only way we can socialise is in the bush.

Promise for next time of a sun orchid

The zoom in suggests this may already have pollinated. Time to look for flying ducks

Close up of the abdomen does not show the wrinkles we see on one that has pollinated.

This flying dock orchid bud is now double in size - maybe 3 more days

Insect action - look at those antennae

Just below was a colony of 6 I had not seen before

Next check - cymbidium suave up hig does have buds

As does the lower plant - good news as cameraman does not need a ladder

2nd flying duck open just above.

The star of last visit show has captured a pollinator. They do that. Shut for about 30 minutes - then open again

Found another cymbidium even lower

It too is budding

Drumstick on the way back

And the red spiky number.

Ended up a great orchid walk with pollinator action. 5 orchids seen in flower.

Now for the lunch photos - barramundi cooked whole with thai flavourrs;

grilled prawns with lemon garlic butter

; a little sous vide beef.
