First Sighting of White Sun Orchid : My Actifit Report Card: October 7 2021
Wake to a grey morning which was not the forecast. Was hoping to find a chance to see sun orchid I found yesterday in flower. Well the sun did break. My wife wanted to see the orchid too. I rode down to start of track and we walked down together. It was open
Colour is never a good indicator for ID. Features count - the cloven post anther lobe suggests thelymitra peniculata - white form.
Narrowness of the leaf is a clue
The post anther lobe does not have the right angle of a peniculata - going to guess pauciflora
The best part - first time sighting for this orchid and amazing to find a new orchid on a track I have walked for 6 years
Ride down the hill and back up and found this bearded orchid up the hill - calochilus campestris - new sighting
Roadside location is amazing
Saw this snake on the roadside - life lesson right there. Do not warm up on the road edge. Cars go there.
Saw this orchid pushing up under the rock ledge - photographer set it free
First sighting of cryptostylis subulata on this road this season - 3rd for the season. The upside view is because it has been folded up under the rock ledge. Next time it will have turned upright
Walked the track at the top of the hill to look for flying ducks and waratahs. No luck on either score but found lots to enjoy
Red bearded orchid
These orchids are steadily working their way down the hill on the edges of the track - 6 in a slice
Next orchid looks like a red bearded orchid but it is twice the size and twice as tall - maybe a metre high. Could well be calochilus grandiflora
Side on
Leaf is about one third of stem height
View of the spike
Two red bearded orchids together
Mini flannel flower shows great textures
I tramped the rocky sections looking for flying ducks and waratah flowers. No luck but good views
Powerlines as per usual
Found this onion orchid on the way back up the hill
Close up shows a long labellum - thinking microtis oblonga
One more red bearded orchid on the way up the hill
Calochilus paludosus
Next hill done for Kids Cancer - 4 hills on week one is the target. Donate here https://mymark.mx/KidsCancerRide
Did a bit more clover clearing. Worked on some IM stuff.
Dinner: Prawn/scallop pots and stir fried rice
Trade action: Sold VNM. Naked puts on NM.
