New Spot for Flying Ducks : My Actifit Report Card: October 26 2021
Clear day with some cloud makes for a good day to explore a new track and a longer ride. I took the low hill option through the suburbs to the edge of the bush around Berowra. Someone I met a few weeks back told me there was a chance of finding flying duck orchids.
Access road is along a long level ridgeline - fire trail keeps running along the ridge for 2 or 3 kms. Great views from the get go

Never know what will be orchid of the day on a new track - bearded orchid gone to seed
Trail goes through one of the Great North Walk campsites. Nice level spot but no toilets
Lots of tracks to the edge of the cliffs - great views down to Hawkesbury River
Love the colours - never saw the ant when I did the photo

Another bearded orchid standing 75 cms tall. Need to visit in September 2022.

Made my way right out onto to the points for good views. Spied this little pink number
Views across to freedom over the river. Maybe after December 1 I can cross by bridge - could always swim or paddle before then
Started tracking back thinking the seeded orchids were the one orchid a day.
This flannel flower caught my eye - it is pink. These normally only flower after fire - fire was at least two seasons back

Bingo. Orchid for the day is a flying duck orchid the lady said I would find. A few plants here

Some days, the orchid spotter gets lucky. I was going to take a side track - lots of those up here - chose not to and found the duck orchids. Nice.
I never tire of the flying ducks and get excited when I find them in new spots. It took me 5 years to find my first and now I have at least 10 spots

It was a great walk on a level track and super quiet well away from the freeway noise across in the next valley.
Did some pottering in the garden getting back lawn ready for fertilizing
Dinner: Chicken green curry - yum.
