New Spot for Lemon Leek Orchids : My Actifit Report Card: November 18 2021
The days are drifting. I had an idea to go to my Hunter Valley house to mow lawns. Was a bit slow to get moving. Decided to skip that and do shopping instead. I noticed the car door was a little open = dead battery. The universe was telling me something. Shopping was a bit more relaxed than the last few attempts - different centre.
Got on the bike to do an afternoon walk to join up with the track I walked yesterday - closing a piece I have not walked on Darri Track, Ku-ring Gai Chase NP.
Orchid lesson. This is a bonnet orchid - the flower spike has come up out of the ground away from the leaf - that piece of bark I placed is 6 inches
Track drops off the escarpment quite sharply
Popped around a corner and saw the flash of yellow - lemon leek orchid in a place I was not expecting
Crossed out of NP into local reserve
Exploring new tracks - get the pictures
Tis the season for the pink cone flower
Love the colours as this shrub grows out
Native Australian violet
Cross over from the last walk at this creek
Worked across a different track below the cliffs - great tree view against the blue on top of the rocks
Back to the National Park
Found these on the way back - same spot as the others - 5 plants all flowering
Walked the roadside back to where bike was parked and then down a path to a known orchid spot.
Large tongue orchid - new opener for the season.
Decided to walk down the Warrimoo track to see if flying ducks still open
The one I saw a few weeks back is still flowering - caleana major
Did find two more.
Tracked back focused on the other side of the track
Found a cluster of variegated hyacinth orchids. Good news as I had seen none where they were last season
Dipodium variegatum- 5 plants
Nice ride and walk with some new orchids
