Horned Orchid Discovery : My Actifit Report Card: November 24 2021
Another grey rainy day to match my state of mind. I am itching to go for a nice long ride on my bike. It feels like I am back living in England without the freedoms. Frittered the morning away with some accounting and some gardening. Did get out on the bike later to walk a local track hoping to find hyacinth orchids
Variegated hyacinth orchid - Dipodium variegatum in a known spot and a new opener this side for the season. This is orchid of the day
A few buds on another flower spike
A delicate slice of lilac
An onion orchid hiding away from mower man - new opener
Walked down the main track hoping to find more hyacinth orchids as seen last season
Walked all the way to the end. No flying duck orchids in spot seen last year
Love the yellow
Tracked back and then took a side trail to get back to under the powerlines
Large tongue orchid found in a place I have not seen before - glad I turned left
Back view - cryptostylis subulata.
Back along the fire trail under the powerlines not expecting much but hoping for hyacinth orchids
Found this - standing 9 inches tall. I have seen a few posts about this orchid. I have checked one spot elsewhere - no sign.
Horned orchid and a new find on this track.
Tall enough to get view up to the column
A harder candidate to photograph - hiding behind the spike
Sure pleased I took the side track detour.
Job done. Got a ride in. Got the orchid a day. Found a new orchid for a track. Got the steps in. Did not rain much. And I got sunflower seeds for the king parrots and some cheap beef for dinner tomorrow and pain killers for my wife
