Horned Orchid Surprise : My Actifit Report Card: January 10 2022
Another grey day but not forecasting rain other than a possible thunderstorm. Best get out early. First day back at work for my wife - I will use that to get moving earlier. Headed down the hill on the bike to walk a loop looking for ant orchids - this is the season start
Did find one budding. Of note is the leaf structure is different to the one seen yesterday - smooth edges to leaf vs ruffled.
This little number is smaller than a US penny
All the rain has brought forward mushroom season
Stepped down to get below for an underside photo and found this one

Always expect to find bonnet orchids - this one in a grassy patch
A few more found on the way down the hill. Cryptostylis erecta
Did not photograph all I found going down the hill
Temperatures are lower than normal. Monitor lizards are slow to move and happy to be photographed on the ground
Found chiloglottis orchids budding on the way down - ruffled leaf edges = different to the other one
Found the hyacinth orchids flowering on the road side up the hill. 7 plants in a small patch
Still a few wax flowers open - bonus ant action
Dipodium variegatum. Two orchid day is time to make the way home. I heard the phone making noises in my pack. I must have left it on when I packed it away. Stopped. Yup. It was making pocket posts
I saw a seed pod and right next to it was this orchid - horned orchid. The orchid masters are looking after me - first time this high on the road and one I would not have seen from the bike

And right there was another hyacinth orchid
Good to get out on the bike and to make it up the hill without incident.
Did a little more garden tidy up.

Stunning orchids! And I love that picturesque white mushroom. I love doing close-ups of mushrooms too, usually in the fall for us.
