Wasp Orchid Odyssey on Lovers Jump Creek

A blue sky day drifted into nowhere. By the time I was ready to ride it was hot. This is never an issue when I have a target to ride for - like an upcoming tour. No such luck the way the rules are around here. Did get up to date with the week's trade accounting

Headed our to walk the big loop of the local track in search of chiloglottis orchids. Found a few new flowers - common ant orchid

Chiloglottis seminuda - no calli on lower part of labellum

Thinking greviliea for this one - so delicate and smaller than a US penny

Went off track in search of midge orchids seen last year - promise of a hyacinth orchid found

Did find the midge orchid but a week late

Walked back onto grassy section to find if there were midge orchids - none but did find variegated hyacinth orchid in flower

Bonnet orchid clinging to life on the rock face

Lily flowering

A few tongue orchids survived the track work

Promise for the next season

Next patch of chiloglottis - same variety as the other side - chiloglottis seminuda

A few new flowers open

Popped to other side of the creek to check on small wasp orchid - a few new flowers

The key to ID is the small semicircle of calli in the middle third and smaller size - chiloglottis sylvestris

There were quite a few more flowers open. Finding them on the phone after editing is hard work as the indexing is shite

Back to the other side of the creek to check on next colony of wasp orchids - no leeches this time. I am torn as to ID for this one - not convinced on sylvestris or reflexa

This one is.categoric as the calli go to the tip of the labellum - chiloglottis diphylla

Turned into a big day - two hours walked, 7 orchids found, and a little gardening done.

Dinner: Italian meatballs - a favourite
