New Track Walked Berowra Valley NP : September 13 2022

avatar

Taken a day to get moving on finding someone to repair the crack on my bike. Just keep putting off personal contact. Did the Google search and found a few local welders. One suggested I send a text with the photo

I sent photo to two and got a yes and a no very quickly. Put the bike in the car to drop it off. Had checked the maps to find tracks to walk nearby. Good thing I had as welder man was off site. No problem - drove down to the fire trail into Berowra Valley NP.

Track follows the ridge line around the edge of the industrial estate

Pink wax flowers are everywhere

Walked off track and found bearded orchids budding - all new for me

Cave structure

Sun orchid - one new orchid for the day.

Thelymitra ixioides with a virus infection

Budding cryptostylis subulata - tongue orchid

This sun orchid not keen to open. Wants a warmer day.

One more bearded orchid budding

Walked to the end of the trail - view over the Hawkesbury River

And back to the houses of Hornsby Heights

Eriostemon flower

Bee action on the wax flowers

Close up shows small spikes that are not visible to the naked eye - special

Drumsticks flower just taking shape

Patersonia iris - this is normal size - about the size of a 50p piece and standing 18 inches tall.

Spring flowers - yellow and pink

View through the trees north to Berowra Heights

Drove across to another fire trail access - first difference was the patersonia - size of a 10p piece and just 2 inches tall - every one and there were lots

Did find one sun orchid this side a little worse for wear

This track has been used for serious 4WD driving - some crazy sections. Disappointing part is the track goes right over this rock shaping

Now this just looks like cracked rocks. Oh no. This is aboriginal carving. They carved these channels in the encourage water to flow a particular way. They had not invented cement and bricks to do it the way we would.

Did some pea flower close ups

Ending on the promise of bearded orchids

The clue to ID is the bracts up the stem

And close up

Why take the time? When I drop the bike off or collect it, I know what to look for. And it saved what would have been a wasted trip into something useful. And I killed the step target out in a new slice of bush.

Did some key supplement shopping on the way home.

Finished off the garden tidy up to add to steps.

Dinner: Pizza from scratch on GF bases

Trade action: Markets opened ugly, ugly - stay away
