Day 3 - Dandenong to Warragul : October 17 2022

(Edited)

Today is the start of the long day's riding for Kids Cancer. Starts off with miles and miles of riding trails

Dandenong Creek below where I rode yesterday. Then onto Eumemmerring Creek Trail. From there onto the track that follows the Princes Highway out of town

This one at Gunns Reserve a little under water - only a couple inches and maybe 50 metres wide

Track started to climb away into Dandenong Ranges - passing Wilson Botanical Gardens.

Was a bit early in the day to stop. Did stop not long after in Berwick for coffee and GF cake

The Inn opposite is dated 1857

The day was a day of big skies and weird wispy clouds. Hard to believe they are still seeding clouds after all the rain last week but that is the way it looks

Next photo looks forward to the range I need to cross to get to Warragul. Routing was all bike paths until past Officer - about 30 kms. It is safe but really slow with average speed just over 10 km/h. Did stop to help an old lady get up from a fall. She missed a raise in the pavement and landed nose first. I made sure she got back to her home when she walked back.

First of the unpaved sections for the day - about 20% in total. Also very slow

Horses and big sky at the start of Convent School Road. Took my lunch on the roadside when we got back to tar on Bunyip River Road. Route was frustrating as it did not take me past any towns after Berwick

Bunyip River at Iona

Iona Catholic Church. Lots of long straight gravel roads - so slow

Did hit a few hills. Half way up this one looming back to Mt BawBaw - needed a few rest stops. Rolling after that into Drouin - snack stop at a service station there

Bike paths along Two Towns Trail for the last 10 kms into Warragul

Top of the last hill next to freeway showing turn into Warragul

And looking back again

Welcome to Warragul sign. Biggest day of the year. Must admit the spirit was unwilling as the legs got tired. Lack of training. Tons of experience got me to keep going

Showered and cycled into town for dinner - most places are closed Mondays. Landed up in the club. Mediocre steak and maxi price.

Quite a few kms added doing the dinner loop. Replanned tomorrow route to skip the rail trails - too slow. Shortens the day by 20 kms too if it works
