New Orchid Finds in Sanctuary Point : December 17 2022
A day to help my son with his move in. A little trade action at market close - adjust QS short puts
My son was heading up to Sydney to get the pot plants the movers would not take. That gave me a little time to get organised. He said he would message me. In the absence of message, I got moving anyway. Stopped at shops on the way down. I have no idea what they might need and just worked on the principle of them not having to go to shops for a few day plus get stuff for tonight's dinner.
Knocked on the door. Becs arrived "What are you doing here? Richard not back yet." "Come to unpack boxes and did some shopping". Richard arrived not long after. We unpacked most of the kitchen stuff. Then I started to organise stuff in the kitchen and pantry - simple like with like stuff. Made sandwiches with stuff that I had brought with me. Planning helps. We cleared all the boxes from the dining room.
Went walking in the fire protection zone behind their property - found the promise of variegated hyacinth orchids
A few bonnet orchids - this is not the best surviving photo as it is a bit out of focus but it has a story. I moved a branch to get the photo
The orchid had worked around and under the branch to get to the light
Saw a lot of hyacinth orchids - this one got the fungal droop
Christmas balls
Slender hyacinth orchid - next visit I will study where they live. Lots to study about potential symbiosis
Dipodium variegatum
A bit more side on
Looks like a pea flower - not seen one before but mightily pleased with the photo
Never seen a eucalyptus tree with green bark - a little one
And a big one. Tracked down to the main road
Large tongue orchid - cryptostylis subulata
Close by was a bonnet orchid - cryptostylis erecta. Then onto the main road
Found heaps of onion orchids finished flowering in the grass verges
Nice to find orchids so close to mg son's house. The garden has a gate opening onto the reserve. The first of the orchids were right there.
House was quiet when I got back - nap time when the baby sleeps. Started to get organised to make dinner. I bought all the ingredients. Finding stuff to do prep was easy as I had filed it all.
Simple dinner - pork ribs and chicken on barbecue with potatoes and a side salad. I knew there was gas in the bottles and I bought the meat and salad
Step one for ribs is start a slow cook into the arch of the bones. Good 20 minutes before the chicken goes on
Keep turning to get the nice charred look.
My son cleared the dining table. Scarlett gurgled away so mum and dad could eat the first dinner in their new home in control
It has been a big few weeks for them - they had their first cooked meal in the new home. They both loved the help. I loved helping my family achieve one of their dreams
