Birthday Party in the Great Dividing Range : January 7 2023

Road trip today to head up towards Tamworth for my brother-in-law's 50th birthday. We were due to stay at his place but changed to a small guest house in the next town (Nundle) as my wife is a bit sick still and does not want to infect all the guests

Rainy start to get ready for the road trip up north. Not a lot of fun walking in and out of the rain to pack the car. Did park the car back into carport so at least the packing was dry. Half the steps for the day come from packing

My wife did the driving with a lunch stop at Singleton. Rain stopped not far short of the Cessnock turnoff. Makes for an easier drive when it is dry - highway qas busy but not once we turned inland

This little skink happy to pose on the warm bricks for the close up photo - maybe an inch and a half long. Other half of the day's steps come from walking past his spot unpacking the car.

Antique shop next door had this toby jug of Field Marshall Montgomery - I read his memoirs when I was about 12 years old. His story and attitudes had a big impact - he did choose his own way. I knew who the jug was instantly.

We are staying in an old bank building nicely done up. We have the place to ourselves

Short drive past Chaffey Dam to Woolomin for the party. Very pretty drive - photos tomorrow when I cycle the road. First photo is of the hills from the house - nice spot to sit under the trees and while the afternoon away

Horses are the reason they moved here

Nice country cottage and birthday bunting. As we arrived another car pulled up with Queensland plates. It is one of my wife's other brothers driven down as a surprise guest.

Dinner plans - lamb on the spit prepared by a friend - lamb slaughtered the day before fresh from the farm. My part - bbq a beef eye fillet and a whack of sausages.

Children had a good afternoon riding horses

Was a good party especially given the on-off story about it and then the bad case of bronchitis my wife developed in the week. Seems the drugs from previous day doctor visit were helpful. My cold has not taken hold - the homoeopathic and herb stuff is working for me.

As my wife is doing dry January and on anti-biotics, she was able to steer us safely the 22 kms home - no wallabies on the road. A big day with a lot of family stuff. For the 5 years they have been here, they have a solid circle of friends. Also nice that three families travelled down from Queensland.
