2023 Welcome Walk on Lovers Jump Creek : January 16 2023

First Monday after the holidays. Does not matter too much for me other than being aware of my wife working from hone on her first day back. Got a few things to do - start tidying up the back lawn ahead of mowing. Lots of bark and leaves from trees next door. Also promised a friend to review his new internet marketing product launching this week.

Did get out to walk Lovers Jump Creek - not walked in a month. Expecting to find bonnet orchids and hyacinth orchids - maybe more. Lots of bonnet orchids - first in a known spot

This little corner of the bush has 7 or 8 orchid types flowering through the year

Perfect light for the view of the column - cryptostylis erecta

Known spot for hyacinth orchids - heading to seed.

Bonnet orchid toughing it out on the edge of the track that has been pushed up by the track work

Hyacinth orchids on the low side of the track budding last time are now flowering - photo work did not get a flower in focus

One budding too - dipodium variegatum - will be open next week

Colours of an Aussie summer - eucalyptus loses its bark to reveal a reddish brown. Photo does not capture the sound of cicadas

The end of a tongue orchid with seed pod forming. This is a key sighting as the plant has survived the track work last summer

Dropped down toward the creek to check on hyacinth and tongue orchids. This photo shows a hyacinth orchid in the centre and a few bonnet orchids in frame against the rock. Not seen the hyacinth orchid here before

The mission - tongue orchid flowering

Small adjustment to camera angle to get the veined underside in view - cryptostylis subulata

Track work has smashed the orchids that were on track edge. A few that are in the rock clefts are hanging in

One can only hope that there will be enough nutrient on the track bed when the seeds drop below. The tubers will keep pushing out spikes - that may be all we can hope for

Chose to turn back rather than walk the loop - this hyacinth orchid on a steep slope down to the creek below (say 65 percent angle). Photos from the top only

Dipodium variegatum - found at least 10 plants in an 800 metres stretch

Walked back via the streets - too hot and humid to focus on finding orchids

Was a busy day - garden work, review work, wrote up investing post, photo work. Need a sleep.

Dinner action: Chicken satay in photos. Not shown - brown chopped chicken thighs and set aside

Caramelise onions, capsicum, garlic, chilli (in that order) in the wok the chicken was browned in.

Deglaze with a little white wine and add coconut milk and a little chicken stock

Add crunchy peanut butter a tablespoon at a time until it melts - maybe 3 in all. Add more chicken stock if you overdo the peanut butter. I did.

Add in the chicken to warm it up

Secret ingredient - adds a little salty and a little sweetness.

Another trick with a little more fruity sweet - mango cubes

Trade action: A little work on ASX portfolio. Bought RHC.AX, BLD.AX, HUM.AX - still refining strategy here.

Bright and shiny early start with summer heat, not able to enjoy after 9am (if anything like Durban).

Brilliant paths and walks finding so many orchids in flower most rewarding!

Feels like Durban but not over 30C yet. First time since records began that there has not been a summer temperature of 30C or more. I am used to it - I go out when it is hottest.

Everything up on the spectrum here, heat, humidity and UV index safer to stay indoors after 9am which is difficult but necessary ☺️☺️
