Midge Orchids open in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP: January 23 2023

Hard to get moving after a disturbed night - the dog we are looking after was out and about outside and got the neighbour's dogs barking at 1 am.

Broke the back of writing up the week's investing post. Quick review of product launch I am working on - a small amount of traffic but no sales. Getting depressed about lack of results from the effort. Did some garden tidy up to get a small win - was a big tidy up as the vege bin is full

Got on the bike to check for a specific orchid seen budding last week.

Readers love this flower - lambertia formosa. The Latin name means beautiful

Only two midge orchid buds left out of the three seen last week - one has been nibbled off

Flax-leaved wattle now open

Stages of opening - seed pod forming

Heard a grunting sound on the left behind me. Swamp wallaby came up out of the bush and started nibbling - was happy for me to walk back around behind it for video - and a photo - well disguised

This was the mission - midge orchid in the middle of the track under the powerlines - now open

Fringed midge orchid and a myriad of pollinator flies

Flowers are pretty small and hard to get close up zoom on a windy day - best to take photos from a little distance and zoom in here

Corunastylis fimbriata

This photo work is even harder - flower is maybe 4 mm across and 6 mm down - narrow-leaved hemigenia

In the last few days I have started using iNaturalist app to ID stuff. Will not catalogue the orchids there to protect locations but it is a good way to get IDs confirmed

The eyes are always open for the unusual. This banksia flower forming has hit an obstacle - it keeps growing to make a perfect question mark

Peach-flowered tea tree - leptospermum squarrosum - square it is

ID on these is proving a challenge - it is a heath flower - probably epacris pulchella

This looks similar but there are key differences - shape, leaves, colour

Found a horned orchid - orthoceras strictum in a new spot - past flowering but a new find is a new find

Bumped into a friend on this quiet section. Told her where the midge orchids were - she was happy. She missed the 2nd wallaby that crossed the track between us.

Was good to get out to clear the head. Sure pleased the one midge orchid was open. They are delayed this year and not many of them

Dinner: Stir fried rice

Trade action: Europe banks screened. Bought BARC.L, BNP.PA, DBK.DE. Credit spreads on ACA.PA, CBK.DE. A few Aussie stocks: Bought AIS.AX, PPM.AX, KMD.AX. Set up next cycle of covered calls

Are you connecting these with apple watch or something? those are awesome shots too. I think this is one of a few times I read a decent actifit post 😁

Exercise is recorded with Fitbit and synced using the Actifit app when I post.

Thanks for the comments - I do get disappointed seeing the poor posts getting better rewards than I get.

I am persisting as the daily journalling is important for my mental health - the photos in nature help a lot too.
