Back to Seven Mile Beach NP - orchid promise : April 2 2023
Was not the best of nights. Rained heavily in the night - that woke me up more than once. Waking every now and then wondering if and when my wife's nephew would make it home. It was daylight when he got back.
Good thing we got an extra hour to pack for going South with the end of daylight savings. Took an age to get the car loaded for two weeks down south. Poured with rain all the while.
Stopped in Chatswood on the way to buy Chinese roast duck - our friend is making red duck curry. Drive was uneventful - glad it was not me - rained a bit
Got on the bike to go walking Seven Mile Beach NP once we had unpacked
An exploration of upcoming autumn orchids - acianthus leaf. Maybe a sand grain looking like a bud forming
Two orchid types - greenhood and acianthus
Mushroom season is building
Younger version of the same type close by
A different greenood - no buds yet
Lobelia
A few acianthus orchids budding - best photo of the lot. Will see them open in a few more days
Native violet - still a few flowering. The leaves are everywhere - my sense is they are crowding out the orchids
Location is consistent with greenhoods seen last year - doubts as there are a few leaves too many

Tricky to get a photo in focus as the flower is really small
Found one more acianthus orchid budding on the east side of the track. All the action seems to be on the west side - the side facing the morning sun
Got home to find these two leeches having a good suck. Normally I check before I get on the bike or in the car. Not this time. Weird situation - two attached head to head on the same vein. First time on these tracks
A ride and a walk was a good way to get over the packing and driving effort.
We had dinner across the way with a friend. Red duck curry using the duck we brought from Chatswood. Was a fun evening.

Thr mushrooms looks so fresh and i would love to ask do you people eat mushrooms over there.
Takes some knowledge to know which are safe to eat. Something like 80 percent have not been formally classified.
Mostly, the people who do come from Eastern Europe where it is a big tradition.
