New Orchid finds in Seven Mile Beach NP : May 18 2023
Slow start to the day after a late night in the market and a few too many wines on Klein Saterdag. My wife headed out early for her knitting class. I turned over. Did do the investing accounting and write up.
Was feeling a bit lazy. We drove up to Berry markets. I was going to ride. Drive there and back and walk after felt a good plan. Berry Showgrounds pavillion
Headed out after lunch to walk the section cut short by the rain the day before
Had seen this fungus last visit - now a little taller
Fungus and orchids together
Budding helmet orchid - a bit early to tell the ID - leaf is quite rounded
Pixie caps orchid - acianthus fornicatis - calli on the labellum are the key and a wider helmet
Tried hard to get below to get the column - not this time
Two helmet orchids side by side - one in focus
Hard to pick if there are any spurs at the top of the spike
A chance to look under the hood
Late days for this greenhood. The seed capsule has started to swell
Matching rosette. Did get a fully open flower a little further along
A little more angle to see the labellum - forked. Pterostylis concinna
Matching rosette - a bit sun beaten
Front on
Huge diversity of mushrooms
Helmet orchid on its side - no sign of spurs
Maybe this is why. A fully open helmet orchid which has similar leaf and colour. Fringed helmet orchid
Front on - corysanthes fimbriatus
More mushroom diversity
The ID debate rages on. What helmet is that?
Big colony of greenhoods budding
Did get a column photo of acianthus fornicatus. A lot of zoom makes for a grainy take
Found another colony of greenhoods on the way back
Pterostlyis concinna. Bumped into the young man I met yesterday at this spot. He had done plant ID at TAFE. He was excited to see orchids in action
More pixie caps on the way back
Budding helmet orchid
Painted fingers orchid - first time find in this National Park
Caladenia picta - just one. Must have walked past it the day before as I was chatting with Luke as we walked back together
The matching shape got my eye. Bullet shape as the mushroom breaks through the soil matching the V behind
Good to get a few kms on the bike and a new orchid find on the track. Only two leeches too.
Friend came over for dinner. We used the duck that did not go into the red duck curry to do pancakes. Had to adjust - use corn tortillas instead. Warmed the duck in the airfryer - 5 minutes. Drizzle water either side of the tortillas and 10 seconds in the sandwich press. Serve with spring onion, cucumber and hoi sin saice. Easy as.
Trade action: Bought BROS, PHIA.AS, PAAS. Sold FRE.DE. Adjusted options on PKX.
