Helmet orchids bursting out : May 22 2023

Clear blue sky and the sound of building work early. Neighbour is just moving in. Putting in concrete edging for their garden beds. Looks kind of neat - we decided to do the same and the man could so it same day. We postponed our trip back to Sydney.

Gave me the chance for one more ride and walk. Rode to closest bush access point to check a piece not walked this week

First orchid always gets a photo - bottom flower of pixie caps orchid not quite open

Did find one a little further progressed. Calli on the labellum is key to ID - acianthus fornicatis

The best I could get showing the column with the yellow pollen showing. Front on photos are hard as flower is so narrow. Like one match head narrow

Overlapped track walked for the third time hoping to find helmet orchids close to the start fully open - getting there

Found one. Fringed helmet orchid - corybas fimbriatus. New opener

Hoping to find greenhoods open. This patch has 10 plants at least budding

One flower open - pterostylis concinna. First time flowering on this side of the track

Step back to see flower and rosette

Close up of the matching rosette

Turned back - side by side helmet orchids in different stages of opening

Black and craggy mushroom

Stages of opening - showing the spots

Filling out and first bristles showing

Almost fully open

The painted fingers orchid I saw a few days back is still flowering - still only one

Zoomed in photo is better than last time

More stages of opening

Front on - not often can one see inside the helmet before opening

Mission achieved to find helmet orchids open on the front end of the track.

Was a bonus to get a ride and walk in. Normally the day travelling home is only made up of steps loading and unloading

Would be remiss to not post photos of the kerbing work. Design is one mower width to roadside will stay as grass.

As the young man says the other slice is "colour between the lines" with garden stuff. Have not really planned that out but now we know the challenge. Make a nice weather resistant garden bed all the way along the front of the house.

Dinner: My wife cooked chicken massaman while I was out. All I had to do was cook rice.

Trade action: Bought CHC.AX, PLS.AX, IAG.AX. Wrote covered calls. Mostly staying out of US markets until debt ceiling is resolved
