Pelican orchids and a sharp greenhood close to home : June 10 2023
Another bad night - spent a lot of it awake on top of the weird dreams. Not sure what is going on there - maybe too many things churning.
Wake to a clear blue sky day. Suggested we go to organic markets at St Ives Showgrounds. Small market all produce related - no niknaks. Went for a walk to a segment of rainforest down below - my wife read her book
Plenty of mushrooms. Good spot for banksia too
A bit of a struggle with light for this one
Purple mushroom
Came off track in the rainforest section. Heavy leaf litter made it hard - did find orchid leaves
A new theme for photos - find a mushroom and and orchid leaf together
Crossed to the section of bush below the track - was burned last year and generally not good for orchids - not this time
Leaf shape is different to the heart shaped leaves seen the other side - guessing helmet orchid - a very specific one
Indeed - pelican helmet orchid. New location - will have to come back to find it fully open to know the full ID
A few bonnet orchid leaves too
This banksia caught my eye off track. These things happen for a reason - nice photo is one reason
And right there was this greenhood rosette
And one flower open - sharp greenhood - pterostylis acuminata.
Rounds out a short walk with success in a place I thought there would be orchids. The best part is the pelican orchid is 5 kms from home versus the one seen earlier in the week 20 kms away
Did a little garden tidy up in the afternoon - raking stuff. Did have bigger plans but ran out of daylight.
Dinner: Cheat prawn and scallop bisque pots. 10 minutes in airfryer plus toast
