First finger orchids in Seven Beach NP : August 22 2023
Heading south after the garden crew have done their tidy up work. That did not go well as they muched two of my vegetable beds. Growing vegetables has not been easy and then the winter growing season gets smashed. Good thing we are selling - there will be no more effort in that arena. Did get moving around midday to go south
We shopped on the way for a few goodies
Gave me enough time to ride down to Seven Mile Beach NP to look for orchids - twining glycine to start
Spied a greenhood in a new spot - over the shoulder view
Blunt-tipped greenhood from the front - pterostylis curta
Native violet
Hovea pea flower
Saw this flash of white. Photo makes it look brighter than it was
First caladenia down south for the season. This starts a challenge for ID as there are so many variants. Key to ID is front and back of colums are green and two rows of calli - this one will be a double header
This is where ID gets hard - pink colour on the outside of the lobes with matching point of the column - caladenia catenata
Front on
The ID challenge does not stop here - maroonhood. The detail looks like pterostylis erecta. The NSW guidebook says those are only found north of Wollongong. The length of sepals are consistent with pterostylis erecta
Side on shows the elongated body of the galea
A differnt side on of another
This one does not have the elongation. Will post a side by side for the gurus - 3 in that post
Do know that this is one of two types with a bigger flower
Front on confirms with the twisted labellum - pterostylis curta - blunt-tipped greenhood
This bud has me guessing - maybe pterostylis nutans
Matching rosette
Got my rosettes mixed up perhaps
These I do know are pterostlyis concinna - the spider chose to come into the photo as a bonus
You cannot see me
Did find a pterostylis concinna still going close by
Another caladenia - green column front and back with a slice of pink between the calli on the labellum
Side on - pink form of caladenia catenata
And another with not quite the candy stripes
Each one is differnt - this one had a white tuft on the point of the column
With this one yelllow tip and darker pink flowers
A few buds on the east side of the the track
This little mushroom is getting bigger in minute steps each week
Short ride with walk about the same distance as the ride
Dinner: Use BBQ beef from last week to make a Thai Beef salad - needs spicy to work. Cut beef into bite size slithers. Marinade of a mix of olive oil, chopped garlic and ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce and fish sauce. Recipe uses palm sugar - used ketjap manis - sweet soy sauce instead. As the beef was already cooked marinate time was short at 20 minutes
Prepare salad - green leaves, cucumber, cherry tomatoes,. Season with same marinade - I added Worcestershire sauce and sliced chilli
Serve is supposed to be with crushed peanuts - chef forgot..sesame needs would work too.
Trade action: helps of covered calls. Will go slow for a bit to let markets catch up.
