Snake Orchids on closed National Parks day : October 16 2023

avatar

It is a blue sky day and not forecast to get too warm. Was hoping to ride to National Park to get some kms in and to find donkey orchids. Got stuff cleared away and checked the parks website. Total Fire Ban has been declared - weird as top temperature is forecast at 24C. Guessing we are in nanny state territory after 2019 and on the back of El Nino warnings. Wrote upnthe weekend trades and headed out on the bike to walk a Council track

View to the north over the MTB park - it was windy

Never know what might be orchid of the day - nibbled bearded orchid

Flannel flowers are just emerging - took time to get the photo because of that bug. Took a while as it was really windy coming from the north

Looking north to Grosvenor Fire Trail side

As it was so windy, chosen to walk the short way around to the south side. Git a prize for doing that - snake orchid in a tree in the side track. Its homenis in a fork of a scribbly gum tree

Cymbidium suave - best part was the flower is on lee side of the tree - could getba photo in focus

Picture against the blue sky

View to the north to where I was hoping to walk - thanks NP for closing the park

Pale grass lily - looks like a white firm of dyanella

Another flannel flower. It is time to pay attention to the bugs - same long proboscis as the other one. Maybe the bugs are more important than the flowers

A few purple fan flowers

Budding bonnet orchids upon a rock ledge above the track

Location photo for the start of the walk. They have built an MTB track with a new covered seating area - no loos. Too bad the kids have broken down the fence and ride where I was walking

A short ride on a day that was planned to be a bit longer. Did not work out that way

Passed halfway through the Kids Cancer Challenge. Donate here https://mclnks.com/kidscancerride or send me some Hive or HBD with gccoz as the memo. I will get cash sent to the Kids Cancer charity

Dinner: Sausages and salads left over from Sunday

Trade action: Adjusted FVRR, PKX, WYNN - getting to the crunchy time ahead of options expiry

Sydney is characterised by the creeks cutting a swateh through the sandstone - Each one about 200 metres below the surrounding areas. Add in a bunch of National Parks and a walking rack - great views.
