Back to Shoalhaven Heads and Seven Mile Beach : November 12 2023

Steps - more than 10k done before midday - packed the car and trailer for a trip down south. Getting clear of stuff we will not be using for a while and have no space for in the apartment. Two big boxes of tools (3 angle grinders) which I have never used, boxes of railway modelling stuff I will one day use, a bag full of cycling clothes and 80% of my clothes that love on hangers. And 3 boxes of Byte magazine going back from the time of the IBM PC. They will make their way to paper recycling in stages

Uneventful drive down. Unpacked some stuff and then got on the bike late to walk Seven Mile Beach NP. This weevil caught my eye as I parked the bike

Checked on the greenish coloured buds I saw last week - nothing open and the obe that was opening has been chomped

This is the one best advanced now

The spots on this bud tells me they are different. This is dipodium variegatum

Photo shows a few of the greenish ones budding - 3 in frame plus the one that got chomped

Fire ant posed for this photo - came off course to defend its turf

A variation on the greenish hyacinth orchid - going to guess dipodium roseum - rose hyacinth orchid

This one is easier - spots - dipodium variegatum

A few in frame - at least four

Twining glycine was the only flower open so far.

Did find the obligatory Seven Mile Beach native violet open - one of two

Every time I get back to the bike or car park, I check for orchids. This one budding not 3 metres from the bike

The one on Gerroa Road has grown a little taller but not open yet

Did ride down the water treatment works track to check orchid seen budding last week. It is coming on. Good news is there was one right where I parked the bike - no photo to share as it was out of focus.

Popped into shops on the way back. Then stopped off at the Heads Hotel for a coldie - been a big day

The view to the mouth of the Shoalhaven River - currently closed

I am pleased I chose to ride and walk. Would have been easy to skip the extra steps and chill.

Dinner: BBQ - nice to hear the sea doing that.
