Corowa to Yarrawonga ride brings tyre troubles : March 15 2024

(Edited)

Not the best night - bed seems a bit soft. Slow to move for meet up in town for coffee. Parked the car and put on the cover. Was late for coffee meet up

Was a bit late leaving camp for coffee stop to start the day. Nice cafe but super busy

Bike set up - two panniers with all the weight on the back - everyone else is using their trailers. Too bad I left mine at home.

First sight of the Murray River for the day. Riding along a sealed trail running alongside the Corowa - Mulawa road. Have cycled that road before

This is the trail - signs of trouble to come - debris on the track - got a lot worse than that

Context photo for one of the river reserves. Very dry - no chance of orchids

More river frontage

River opens out onto Lake Mullawa - a weir makes the huge lake - dead trees are a stark contrast

Part of the track goes out over board walk. Started up from here with a flat tyre - maybe a pinch when bike dropped over the square edging

Repair was a pain. Could not get enough air in to the flat tube to find the cause. Decided to put on new tyre - first tube was dead. Struggled to get the tyre on - a little help with a quick lever and track pump from follower car - took a while. Ready to give up and go back home

More tree scenes on the lake. Not much further a huge bang - back tube has exploded. Repair time again. Panniers off - wheel off - check the tyre. It has blown the bead - should not happen to a new tyre. Must have damaged it getting it on. Old tyre back on and last good tube

Lunch stop was back on the lake and near the end of the track. Better riding on the roads with no debris

Bridge over the weir into Victoria and the town of Yarrawonga

Stopped to shop and a beer in town before heading to caravan park out of town - photo of the pub side alley

Crossing the Tocumwal canal

Longest ride in some time - legs are fine as rack was flat. Mood not good - the rush of the past few months has left me.not k owing what state gear is and even where it is. No puncture kit and only two patches from the other riders. Need a plan B for tomorrow

Get the weight off the bike. Check with my mate if he has patches. Fix one tube with one of the too big patches. Hope it holds for tomorrow. Ride with the group to Goorambat and take one pannier on for my last leg. My mate will pick me up if I have problems.

Dinner bbq was a shared cook by the others. I did my own - always do. Sleeping mat was dead - had to sleep with it doubled over. Hope I sleep. Tomorrow is 80 kms day on roads

That's a serous distance with such a packed bicycle.
What kind of trip are you making?
Punctures are so annoying. I hope you will be able to fix your bicycle!

Too much weight on the back - maybe 15kgs - tests out any weakness. Plan B has that off the bike for the next few days
