Short walk in Warby Ranges : March 17 2024

avatar

Something of a rest day today visiting with my friends. Sat around chatting. Had breakfast. Did go out for a drive to the top of the Warby Ranges

Walked up to the microwave tower and then to the water point. My friend had been living here around 3 years and had never walked this. Time to start.

Spied these leaves on the ground - look like the start of a greenhood rosette. It is a bit dry for orchids yet.

Next photo shows the rosette has more than one layer of leaves - not an orchid. Saw a few more higher up with 3 layers

A few splashes of colour - see these at home

Stopped to take a photo of the view over the Winton Wetlands - this huge orb weaver spider was there. Could not get close for photo and had to use zoom. So a bit out of focus

View down to the Wetlands

Yellow paper daisy

Australian bluebell

View the other side over the Hume Highway to the big mountains - Snowy Mountains

Posed this one. The top fork of the tree points to Mt Kosciuszko - Australia's largest mountain

Quite a few trees had a yellow target painted on them and had been strimmed around the base. Guessing it is for fire protection - either to protect the tree or to make sure it does not catch fire and explode if a fire comes along. Not all were alive - guessing the latter

View back to where my friend lives - just behind the front hill.

Track marker - this part of the NP was land granted by the Nason family who lived in these parts over 150 years.

Good walk. Pretty warm. No orchids. I hope my friend comes up here a little more often.

Spent the afternoon watching some horse races. My friend is keen better. I am an occasional. He was not betting as his wife had offered him a $5 reward if he did not. We had some fun - lost a little which was less than the price of 2 movie tickets.

Dinner cooked for me - corned beef and veges. Something I never cook at home. Headed to bed a little later than the night before - kind of hoping for a 5 or 6 hour stint. Ride tomorrow around midday.

The spider looks like it photo-bombed your landscape photography. !LOLZ
seems like you have a nice walk, although no orchid for this time round.

I was doubtful that I could get the spider in focus but I knew there was a landscape there. Never thought of it as photobombing. I love the idea
