Hornsby Heights train-bike orchids : October 31 2024

Last day of the Great Cycle Challenge. Got caught up in investing stuff which took a whack of the morning. Body taking time to recover from the ride the day before. Got on the train to ride from Hornsby to look for two specific orchids

Trigger flowers

Was turning into a perhaps orchid day - budding bonnet orchids - note the burgundy back to the leaf

Seeded orchid - either sun orchid or bearded orchid

Grey spider grevillea

Pea flower - not many left

Seeded bearded orchid - and spider action

Purple fan flower - might have to do with other flowers this walk

A burst of yellow - seen white ones earlier this week - now a few yellows

This is a first. Normally I am looking to get a photo of the front of the upside down flower (my name) - this time the underside. Note the dark purple sepals

Leptospermum squarrosum

Target one for the walk - flying duck orchid in a known spot. Seeded

Target two for the day - snake orchid found in trees and spots like this. The known spot one has gone - someone has stolen it

Rain started to sprinkle as I started the side track to find cryptostylis orchids - one budding

Another seeded bearded orchid

Getting closer to an orchid open - budding hyacinth orchid - saw only one.

Did see a seeded bonnet orchid which surprised me as they are only just starting

Did find one open in among a big cluster of 30 or 40 budding. Bonnet orchid - cryptostylis erecta

Seeded bearded orchid also showing the single leaf

Took a while to find a large tongue orchid flowering. They normally come out before the bonnet orchids

Challenging photo in low light front on - cryptostylis subulata

Bottlebrush flowers on the road walk back to the bike. Did not rain

Another snake - skin only today

Photo down our street. They did a hazard reduction burn today - sky filled with smoke and stinks. Hate to know the damage to orchids - with any luck they just do the bit next to the houses. The orchids are on the side of the track next to the creek - not the houses. This is why I went by train out of the smoke zone

Last ride of the Kids Cancer Challenge - took me over the total kms ridden the 6 months before. Donations surpass previous records too. Feel free to send HIVE - memo GCC2024 and I will send cash.

Dinner plan: Creamy pasta with mushrooms, bacon and cooked chicken

Step one: Make a roux. Add in sliced garlic and leek

Step two: make a bechemel - today used milk and cream cheese. Add in pre-cooked bacon and mushrooms

Toss in the cooked pasta and serve with cracked pepper

Trade action: Went back to TheStreetPro action list - added credit spreads on AMAT, ESTC.

Grey spider grevillea is a beautiful flower , that looks very different. There is a snake's shell, which means there may be snakes around, Amazing photography

Saw the snake on another track the day before. Always happier seeing a shell especially as I walk the bush in sandals
