Canberra train expo and the drive back to Sydney : March 30 2025
Got a blue sky day for the drive home from Canberra - well blue at the Canberra end. My wife headed out early. I went doen to the start of the day's ride to say my farewells. Really enjoyed my two days of Canberra riding
The annual Canberra model railway expo is on this weekend. My first stop is there
The trailer used to move displays about
A few photos - this display was out together by the students of UC Kaleen High School mentor program. They included a football stadium - one student painted all the jerseys. So many things to learn building a layout makes for a great mentor program
My interest is in N-scale layouts - this is smaller than I want to build but gives an idea of what can be done in less than 3 feet across
This layout caught my eye as we cycled through Muttama last week. I had not even noticed the old railway stuff.
The young man had all the info about this location and a few spots up and down the line we cycled past
Next set of displays were Japan scenes at different sizes - this one 2 foot by 18 inches
The biggest of the Japan layouts - loved the high level bridge
A different way to do a small layout - make a spiral
Not the best photo but it goes on as it is a small rural Australian station I have seen - Binalong
Colours match what I recall
A different N-scale layout - cola train - took the photo as my brother-in-law has driven 9025 for Pacific National
Model represents Goulburn Station really well - colours especially. Nice to see models of places I have been to
Was pleased to see the Blue Mountains layout on show - Mick Bluett tinkering. I was a member of NSRMA for a few years and know a few of the blokes attending
This layout is quite different as it is entirely modular. Modules are maybe 15 inches wide and 20 inches long. It is all plug and play. No need for a long trailer
Why the detail report? I have always wanted to build a layout. Have boxes of stuff. Went to build enthusiasm to start. We do have space in our house down south. Best begin before my eyesight fails. All the exhibitors say the first layout takes 5 years - I will be 73.
Drive home did not deliver blue sky - hit a lot of rain on top of all the rises from Goulburn and it was very windy. Stopped twice to stay alive. My drive had less rain than my wife's - was pleased to stay awake all the way home
Dinner: Pizza - a mix of different ideas for home demands
Steps come from unloading the car and walking the train expo
