Shoalhaven Heads Meanderings : May 3 2025
Day's plan got changed a bit - was the idea to drive south after my wife voted. That got delayed as she went to visit a friend in hospital facing a life changing diagnosis. Traffic was slow - lots of people driving in places they are not at home in on their way to polling stations - yep Federal Election Day
So we got down south too late for a bike ride. Went walking to get the steps in. This young man was flying his motorised kite on a perfect wind free afternoon
Bottlebrush flowering just up from our place. Walked up the road for mountain and sunset photos
Coolangatta Mountain
Two grand gums standing behind the Shoalhaven Heads sign against the light
Cluster of mushrooms in the grass verge on the way back
Walked up to bowling club - great mountain view over the bowling greens
Banksia flowering in the reserve opposite the bowling club
Not a rainy day but there had to be hibiscus photos
I know where to go the next time it rains. Week ahead forecast is dryish
House for sale - its back fence is our boundary
Set back from the road with great views of the mountain from the other side of the house
Mushroom action in our little park - where the kids play equipment is
Dinner - leftovers - been a full on day - time to take it easy

Mushroom sightings very different in places popping up after rains, Banksia flower is stunning it must attract insects aplenty.
Your mountain (hill) makes for a great break from flat region, landmark to never get lost when roaming in the region.
The mountain also has important Aboriginal meaning. That said there are none living on it.
Typical claim to certain areas, often don't even know why, nonetheless it is a landmark.

I love the road that leads to coolangata mountain
It’s beautiful
There are roads that go all around the base. It is a round trip of about 12 kms - I cycle it every now and then when I am not looking for orchids
